There is an article on IGN about the 3DS outselling the Playstation Vita 10:1 in Japan; however, this is not the point of this thread. The last sentence of the article says that one PSV game managed to break the top 20 games sold list, New Little King's Story!

This is the first time I heard about this game. I'm so glad Little King's Story got a sequel because it was one of my favorite games this gen. I'm really hoping it gets localized for America.

Yeah the 3DS was in the same predicament before the pricedrop. I think TGS2012 will be the announcement of a price drop for the Vita cuz its not gaining enough steam except in Europe slightly

They aren't even selling Playstation Vitas in retail stores in Denmark if the same goes to other parts of Europe I can easily see the PS vita selling a lot with a price drop and some awesome games.

The 3DS is outselling the Vita mainly because Nintendo supports the 3DS. Look how many games are out for the 3DS,you can have the best system money can buy but if there is no software for it, It's just a 300$ paper weight. So far the Vita is just a 300$ paper weight, because only fan boy's and girls are going to buy it with that software line up out now and coming soon it looks bad. GREAT GAMES SALE SYSTEM NO ONE IS GOING TO BUY A SYSTEM AND HAVE NOTHING TO PLAY ON IT.

Going to keep this as on-topic as possible, but this isn't even remotely true. The Vita's predicament is MUCH WORSE than the 3DS's before the price drop. Seriously, if you look at Media Create the Vita is tracking over 400,000 units behind what the 3DS was BEFORE the price drop. Now keep in mind that the 3DS launch was affected greatly by the Earthquake/Tsunami that hit Japan, and also consider that the Vita launched right before Christmas while 3DS launched in February. And we also know for a fact that the Western launch was not nearly as successful as that of the 3DS. Not saying this to be negative about the Vita, but you've got to be realistic about this situation. If you think Vita now is comparable to 2010 3DS you need to re-examine the facts. This is the first launch from one of the big four (Nintendo/SEGA/Sony/MS) since Dreamcast to do this poorly (unless you count PSP Go). If it takes until TGS for Vita to get a price drop Sony is on some serious crack.

I hope that they announce a price drop around E3 2012 (preferably before) with TGS 2012 a definite, emphatic certainty. But we will see as its inevitable. Also this is all relative. Dont compare the Vita to 3DS, compare it to the PSP at its time. And just compare the 3DS to the DS when it came out.

I do agree that games sell the system and they are coming. Its as if this is everyones first hardware launch. The Vita had the largest launch lineup in gaming history and has tacked on a few more gems since. Do you honestly expect a new AAA game every week? Relax and play a game or two. Have you platinumed/100% every vita game already?

@all you people predicting a price cut

I SERIOUSLY doubt its going to happen anytime soon. The reason Nintendo cut the price of the 3DS so soon was because they could afford to. They were making money off of every 3DS sold, and even when they cut im pretty sure they are making a bit on every system, or losing VERY little.

Correct me if im wrong, but the Vita is being sold at a loss already. Sony cant afford to cut the price and lose even more money. What theyre probably gong to do is launch a new ad campaign, bundle in some free games, and start cranking out titles as fast as they can, cause they REALLY need it.

You should have worded the post without the bit about the PS Vita sorely behind in sales.

I thought it only took 170 to manufactor? I mean then you gotta include packaging and labor costs and what not, and obviously packageing includes marketing fees, label designs, ect. Regardless i dont see the vita costing more than 190 if the 170 price was correct? i beleive someone gutted it and found the prices of each part abroad and it totaled to 170ish..

with that said, i bought a vita for 250 and i bought a psp for 250...i was happy with both purchases, unfortionality i dont play the vita because im in the money crunch and dont feel like spending money on games haha

Little King's story seems cool. As far as the Vita failing, I would say it has not. It is doing bad in Japan, but everywhere else it is doing ok. According to VGchartz, eve if all it does is ball park the numbers, the 3DS is only outselling the Vita 2 to 1. In Europe, the 3DS does not outsell the Vita by a wide margin at all. People also forget that the 3DS has been out for over a year while the Vita has been out just over a month. The Vita obviously does not have a killer app due to just being released. The 3DS launched last March and did not have a killer app until November. The Vita is a getting a killer app in June. People need to stop saying the Vita is a sinking ship because it does not sell great in Japan. Japan is a small market. Everybody said the same thing with the PS3, but yet that system is still kicking. The Vita is not going to be a Virtual Boy.

Sony themselves said that they were selling it at a loss. That number came from people taking the cost of each component and adding it together, not including R&D, shipping, manufacturing, and marketing. Cutting the price would be financial suicide. Sony said that if the Vita sold WELL then they would profit in around 3 years.

As they arent selling that well who knows how long it will take to make a profit at the current rate. Sony absolutley cannot afford a price cut

I think Sony's goal in selling Vitas at a loss is simply to get people to buy the system. The more owners that are on board, the more third-party developers will be on board, and the more people will buy systems. It's a cycle. There's got to be a method to their madness. Maybe a price cut would be beneficial, as crazy as it seems. If Sony's willing to go as low as 250$ right now, I wonder if they'd be willing to go lower, if it's what gets people to buy the system?
