Article: PS3 will have DVD upscaling to HD

The article is old (March), but I dont remember seeing it here, so...

this will most likely come when the format war is just about over. Sony want people to buy bluray movies. When bluray clearly wins (which is seems like it is) DVD upscaling will come

Could be.  But the way Sony is ramping up the workloads and PSN support hopefully it wont take that long...besides, Sony is also pushing Blu-Ray strongly, and they know many people bought a PS3 for BD playback and it is a PS3 selling feature, so it is in Sony's best interest to give the PS3 DVD upscaling capability, otherwise people will just start buying someone else's BD players that already upscale DVDs, especially now that a Pioneer $299 BD player is coming out in June (although I dont know if it will upscale).

DVD upscaling isn't that big a deal.  Any HDTV has to upscale 480p to its native resolution to display it anyway.  I don't know why people think upscaling is this magic thing that makes DVDs look HD.  They don't.  I have an upscaling Denon DVD player.  It looks no better than my PS3.  In fact, the Denon is sitting in the closet because I don't need 10 thing on my entertainment center.b11051973

What magical tv do you have that automatically upscales 480p dvd's to a higher rez? Without hardware like a dvd player that upconverts regular dvds from 480p to 720p, 1080i or 1080p your stuck watching 480p dvds on a high rez tv; which looks like crap by the way.
