This isn't anything to do with the graphics of the game, but how well the environments have been crafted. So what games do you think are very well designed?

In my opnion I think Fallout 3 and Bioshock are artistically amazing. Fallout 3 has such a great wasteland to explore, even though the graphics aren't brilliant. And then in Bioshock I think the fantasy underwater world is simply perfect. Eery area you enter has plenty of great objects and scenery to bring that world to life.

I agree with Bioshock, havnt played Fallout as The Elder Scrolls waznt realy my type of game. Then there are games wich have achieved wat thy set out to do in terms of there graphics and setting. Killzone 2 did well absorbing players into the dark, gritty world of Helghast, and Uncharted nailed the lush jungle, making it come to life.

I actually know how they did the water effect in Bioshock 3D design-wise.

They had an animated texture and put a smoke particle emitter under it. :D

In Oblivion and Fallout, they use repeating textures here and there throughout the landscape. :D

I'll agree with Bioshock, Killzone 2 and Fallout 3. They all have a very consistent feel to their art which I feel adds a ton of personality and atmosphere to a game. I'd also add Dead Space and Flower. The lighting effects in Dead Space are amazing and really pull together the whole experience.

I'll give an honorable mention to RE5's character models. If you buy the figurines, you can look at the actual character models in 3d, rotating and zooming and stuff, and they are truly impressive.

Completely agree about Fallout 3. That is definitely the main reason why I enjoyed the game so much. Gameplay was equally awesome, but the Wasteland just gave the game its eerie atmosphere. I loved every second of exploring. Amazing experience.

I loved both games. But I simply loved the visual atristry crafted in Bioshock. I have always had a thing for underwater cities. And they executed a perfect 'Atlantis' in Bioshock. Visually stunning, I give it a 10.

yeah i agree with all you guys...

the games all create a wonderful atmosphere, from lush jungle environments, dark creepy environments to, and complete desolate area of Fallout 3...

Bioshock actually made me feel like i was underwater.

and personally i think that the inside car view of GT5P made me feel like i was in the car ...

how come they sau that the graphics on the ps3 version of fallout 3 are worse than the 360 and pc versions? i thought the graphics were the same, actually i thought the 360 version was more cartoony and the ps3 was more realistic

Yeah, the art style in those games were amazing. I also like the artstyles in both Killzone2 and Valkyria Chronicles. One was dark, gritty, and ominous like a charcoal drawing gone mad. The other is just freakin' beautiful with its bright and vibrant watercolor look. When I think of artstyle those two are always the first to come to mind. I'd also like to mention InFamous for the fact that the buildings and the city was covered in really dull drab colors that perfectly contrasted to the bright colors of your electic attacks. And the way your electricity lit up the sewers just looked so darn cool. Plus I really enjoyed the comic book styled cutscenes. It had awesome mood-setting music, too. They really did a lot with that game to get you wrapped up in it.

bioshock, little big planet (so vibrant and playful like the game and so totaly unique), valkyria chronicles did amazing work to with its hand drawn look, i agree dead space art direction greatly contributed to the overall sense of fear and solitude in space as well and uncharted did a great job of getting that adventurous lusch enviornment vibe goign and nathan drake was all around super well designed character as were they all but the first three i mentioned were the most unique art looks in my opinion in game at least.

I really love the cell shaded art style in Prince Of Persia, even though the game was fairly average, it really was a beautiful game. I loved the lushious green environments, contrasting with the dark corrupted areas, it was a feast for the eyes.

Never actually played it. What put me off was the black outlines around characters, whih I saw on the trailers. Looked weird.

Flower and I cant remember the name of the other one but it was a PSN game where you could rewind and fast forward scenes and move the camera about as you progressed through a surreal world containing a cat, dog and panda.Christopper

Linger in the Shadows is the one you're thinking of. That "game" is really artistic.

I'm sorry but when I think of great artistically made games the last thing that comes to mind is the dull tan and grey Fallout 3 environments... All they did in FO3 was reuse allot of the same uninspired textures over and over and over again and some of those textures are really bad. When I think of great artistically crafted PS3 games I think of games like Flower, Linger in shadows, Valkria Chronicles, Folklore and Uncharted.

I will say Killzone 2, the lighting glare, and dark grittiness to everything adds such a great atmosphere and artistic personality to the entire game.

Also, I will say Silent Hill 2 and 3. These games are incredible. Psychologically disturbing, as well as visually disturbing, it is beautiful though to witness it all. In particular, this part in Silent Hill 2 when you are walking down the dark hallway, and then you hear a scream, continue down the hall, and you see a barred off section of the hallway, behind the bars, Pyramid Head is standing there, glowing red. Even with your flashlight off, he stands there almost catatonic glowing red; it is truly amazing.

I agree with the Silent Hills, my favorite game franchise of all time. But...aren't we doing PS3 games? :P For PS3, I'll go with Folklore, Mirror's Edge, Valkyria Chronicles, Bioshock, Little Big Planet, Flower, and MGS4.

I agree with bioshock. fallout 3 not so much, great game though. Im going to say deadspace.Maybe killzone 2. Infamous had some great enviroments as well. nothing artsy but still lots of detail and the fact you could go any ware. But for me im going to pick deadspace. the art style was really cool and it looked great graphicly.

- Resistance 2 wasn't amazing designwise, but the scale and drawdistance is spectaculair.

- Infamous has a great cityscape with lots of little details. Better than any superhero free-roaming game.

- Uncharted has already been mentioned.

- Devil May Cry 4 has some great looking and very detailed enviroments.

- I love the sterile/minimalistic look of Mirrors Edge.

- Killzone 2 has already been mentioned

- Ratched and Clank Tool of Destruction, same reason as Resistance 2

- Prince of Persia has great fantasy setting.

Future games

- Uncharted 2

- Last Guardian

- God of War 3

Uncharted. It took me longer than expected to beat the game because I was in awe of the atmosphere. It forced me to take my time and I enjoyed every moment.

I have never regretted once purchasing Folklore, very underrated and enjoyable game.
