AC2 was a huge step up from AC1 but I can really only call it a 'good' game. It isn't great. It's fun, but there's nothin there which would make me want to play it over and over again. Call me a stick in the mud, for saying it, but it really is only recieving all this praise just because the first was SO god aweful. I want better controls in the next game. There is so much micromanagement with Ezio, it's ridiculous. If they had the same climbing controls as Infamous, then the platforming would be so much better imo.I dont mean the cutomisation and equipment buying- that was actually the best new feature of AC2. I'm talking about controlling Ezio . Unlike Cole, guiding Etzio around is more combersom then it should be. The camera is awkward, and Ezio does the Lara Croft thing often where he jumps to his death.HellsAngel2c
You're right that the first one was god awful. To someone who is not pleased by graphics to the point that it can drive a game's flaws from their mind, it was quite bad. But the second game isn't just good by comparison. It really is good on its own merits. It's just all the more shocking that it was good because of its predecessor.
One of the things that's better in AC2 is that climbing requires more thinking and effort. I love that. In AC1, eavesdropping was "go here and press triangle". Climbing was "go here and hold up on the control stick for 2 minutes". That's not fun. But when climbing a building actually becomes a bit of a puzzle itself, it makes you feel like you're actually doing something rather than watching Ezio do things. In other words, it took a turn from the latest Prince of Persia in AC1 to Prince of Persia Sands of Time in AC2. And I prefer actually being responsible for the platforming because it makes me feel like I'M doing it.
One thing I dislike about inFamous's controls is the stickiness. It just feels odd. There are parts in AC2 that are 'sticky' like this, for example, benches. When he gets near a bench, he gloms to it. Try to pull him off and it's like he's resisting you, like he's stuck down with glue. But when he's on buildings and stuff, it doesn't feel sticky, and I liked that.
Sure, sometimes he jumps to his death against your instructions, but that only happened about 3 times to me in the entire game. These kinds of things come with the territory of adventure-platformers. Of course though it might help that I'm a big fan of Tomb Raider so... :D
