About to finish up AC II. Do I need to play Brotherhood and Revelations to get ready for AC III? I read the Revelations is not crucial to the plot so maybe I could watch some Youtoube of that one?

Revelations does little to move the plot forward, Brotherhood does have some value to the plot. SepewrathI'm halfway through the storyline for Revelations and agree with what Sepewrath said.

Revelations doesn't do much in terms of overall story progression of the series. But at least there is a bit of closure with Ezio's story.
What you have to take into consideration is Desmonds story since he will be prominent in AC3. Like others here I'd say Brotherhood has quite a lot to offer on the Desmond side but Revelations has very little with a lot of the Desmond sequences actually being optional. That being said you could easily get away with just reading a little about Desmond and move on to AC3.
Revelations doesn't do much to advance the story, it does wrap up Ezio and Altiar's though. I think its worse in story and gameplay than 2 and brotherhood, but it was still a fun game and worth playing through if you played and enjoyed the other 3. plus it seems like you can get it for cheap so I'd still recommend it.
Revelations was pretty useless in moving the plot foward. It basically just filled in some loose ends, but nothing really significant, it's up to you though.
On the other hand, you should probably play Brotherhood.
Play them both, Revelations advances Desmond Miles' story by significantly. And so does Brotherhood.
I'm so relieved ACIII is going to be so fresh and different story wise. As much as I love this franchise, I'm nearly forcing myself to keep going through Revelations just to finish it, even though barely paying any attention to the plot. It's just not holding me like I, II, and Brotherhood did
Or at least watch the 5 minute cutscenes that advance the over-arching plots at the end of the games on youtube. Both Brotherhood and Revelation advance Desmond story forward, you should play both games.

Of course, why play any game that advanced forward the series? We can just watch the cut-scenes on youtube...because they actually contain all the information we need, right?
It's an option I guess..but not the one I recommend.

The only part of those games that advanced the over-all story (the story needed for Assassin's Creed III) are the endings. You can basically read up about what is happening to desmond on wikipedia watch the ending, and you'll be good.Sure you can pay $30 for Revelations and play the 5 hour campaign, and pay $20 for brotherhood and play a slightly longer campaign, but there's no reason to when he can just get the information he wants online for free.
I wish I had did that instead of buying the two games.
