6.5 rating or 8-9?

Solid 8.5 for me.
...but this is old news, dude. Everyone and their mama knows how much Assassin's Creed disappointed people.
If you play through it once without going too nuts on the side missions, it's a 9.
Edit: I played through it doing all the side missions and it was an 8 for me. Replays should be far apart.
The reason most people didn't like assasin's creed is because it wasn't an adrenaline-filled kill-fest. It was an intelligent, historically accurrate, new IP that took lots of chances. If you like interactive-stories, then the game is a 9. If you're a hormone-driven teenager, then it's a 6 because you don't have the time or presence of mind to care about the story that it's telling. Assassin's Creed was the best selling new IP the year it came out, I think, don't quote me on that. AC2 is gonna be sweet with the new depth that they're adding to the game, it's a definite buy and probably instant classic.
The game, to me, is a heavily flawed masterpiece. Its ideas delivered a whole new level of interactivity with the environment and NPCs, and a stealth gameplay within the Crusades era, with so much potential for being a GOTY candidate. Unfortunately, the overall execution of the ideas was sabotaged during the development phase, and the end product ended up largely a disappointing game. Assassin's Creed 2 will be a significant upgrade from the original, since Ubisoft has heard all the complaints and outcries of AC's fanbase.BrainhunterI really doubt it will be much of an upgrade just because of the games coming from Ubisoft Montreal lately...Each one has been good but nothing astounding and lil work actually put into the games. Calling the game a flawed masterpiece is just bad. The idea was great but the execution was quite bad and should not be given merit just because of the idea. It's like calling bad video game movie great because the idea behind it was good but everything else was just bad.
The main complaints towards assasin's creed was how repetitive it was, but those complaints don't truly get down what is bad about the game. Every game is repetitive and that is widely known. Instead assasin's creed made you repeat activities with no true fun or acheivement behind them at all. Pickpocketing was walking behind someone and ...pressing o. That was it. There was nothing done that made the game an actual game and fun. Also this and the above post are just my views on what was flawed with the game, not trying to push them forward as fact if it may seem that way. I jsut get tired of threads about this game xDThe reason most people didn't like assasin's creed is because it wasn't an adrenaline-filled kill-fest. It was fun, but got a bit repetitive for me. It's a solid 8.

Yeah, just a bit. Pick pocket, easedrop, save a civilian, jump off a tower, go back to Assassins bureau. Sleep. Back to Assassins HQ
Also had no replay value (unless collecting flags is your idea of replay value  ) and the ending sucked. I agree, it deserved a 8.It was fun, but got a bit repetitive for me. It's a solid 8.

I'd rate it a 7/10. I really like the settings, the surprise that you really CAN climb damn near anything, as promised. But it was the repetition that killed it for me. No variety in the missions, except for the very few plot assasinations. It just really dragged on and made some mistakes, such as having hundreds of "hidden items" and no real method of finding them easier...be it an audio cue like the pigeons on GTAIV, or marking found flags on the map like the diamonds in Far Cry 2.
It was still a really unique game. A collector should own it for sure. A casual gamer might not even be satisfied by a rental though, given the timesuck the game can be, and not in a good way.
Everyone is entitled to their opinion. I like Assassins Creed and would give it a 8.0
I believe critics on well-known websites such as this where huge chunks of people, sometimes considered as the main population of gamers flock to, critics should based a review on the quality of the game; glitches, framerate, all the technical jargon they should go through and if it's done they should say something like; "this game has barely any glitches, smooth framerate" the part where gamers like it or not should be left out for gamers to decide whether they 'like' it or not. Sure they can describe about the game, what's it about but not slap "Confusing ending" as a critical evaluation/conclusion or in other words have it based on the score, it's just not acceptable. That should be left for the gamer to decide as everyone perceives it differently in terms of likeness of a game.
I give at 7 which in gamespot ratings is good...."A game within this range is good overall, and likely worth playing by fans of the particular genre or by those otherwise interested. While its strengths outweigh its weaknesses, a game that falls in this range tends to have noticeable faults"..
I agree it is repetitive, but it was cool to play. The controls were good and there was alot of detail. I didnt buy it, was going to but a friend let me borrow after he finsihed it. I will prollygive Assassin's Creed 2 a try..maybe they will make some improvements and we will have us a 9-9.5 game to play...
I give it a solid .....2. Here's the game... 1.Climb 2.jump in a hay pile 3.easdrop 4.pickpocket 5.repeat from step 1.mclovin401Agreed...it sucks
Good game, it does many things right and it has few shortcomings however it's definitely enjoyable.
Assassin's Creed 2 seems to address those problems that kept the first one from being a true masterpiece, time will tell. ;)
i thought the idea was crazy.no one had ever tried something with the holy land n i thought the world was built awesome. i give it an 8 cuz i really enjoyed it n didnt get bored untill the end n started skipping the save citizens n stuff..
the game informer article looked really really promising tho ( the article put out a few days ago about assassins creed 2)/ 15 different kinds of mission and 2 of the 3 ( pickpocket n eavesdrop ) don't return. veniceshouldbe awesome and da vinci and all the things that were going on in thatrenaissancetime period shuld make it an amazing story. im thinking 2 will be a 9-9.5. cant friggin wait
I don't know... the first time I played it I thought it was 8.5 - 9. I tried to pay it a second time over a year later and I could not stand it because I started to notice things that annoyed me... I really want to play through it again cause I'm not sure I got the whole story the first time but I just can't stand replaying it even after taking a long break from it.If you play through it once without going too nuts on the side missions, it's a 9.
Edit: I played through it doing all the side missions and it was an 8 for me. Replays should be far apart.

7.0 Repetitive, yes, but why does the ending becomes a massive massacre where this caped 12th century panzer tank badass Altair goes on a frontal assault on the whole Crusader and Saracen armies together? I mean, they could have made it a stealth mission but noooo, I have to chop through endless masses of dudes for 45 minutes to get my ass handed to me by Robert de Sable? That pretty much ruined the whole ending for me.
Played it on 360 and thought it was crap... cool LOOKING though, for what that's worth. Not much, since I still think it's crap.
