Get Ratchet and Clank. The game is perfect.
Assassin's Creed has its flaws, but it's still a very good game. I think that too many people expected it to be the greatest game ever made, and so when it turned out otherwise, they blew its shortcomings out of proportion.
But still, if you have to pick only one, Ratchet is the better choice.

I don't think people expected the greatest game ever. I think people expected a somewhat decent, solid game and it failed to deliver. If you like it fine, its all opinion, but if you play a lot of games and have for years its overabundance of shortcomings and flaws are glaring signs of a bad game.
So on topic R&C FTW!

I like how you say that it's fine to like AC, but then imply that anyone who's an experienced gamer will dislike it. Well, I have played a lot of games, and have done so for years, and I still don't think it's a "bad game." Sorry. Nice try at invalidating my opinion though.

lol. Sorry dude don't take it to heart. Ive enjoyed crap games too. I was obsessed with Tenchu: Wrath of Heaven at one point knowing it was god awful. But let me flesh out why my opinion of whyAC is so poor.
The worst part would be the AI. Retarded would be an understatement. AI isn't always that important, but for a game with a realistic setting and stealth mechanics its detrimental to the experience. Stealth play is rather pointless
Combat is extremely weak and oversimplified. There is no skill to it and its not even fun.
The platforming aspect fairs better than the combat among other aspects as well, but is still oversimplified and simply not rewarding by any means.
Story is weak mainly because the manner in which it was presented.
Technical flaws from framerate issues to freeze ups. Also any solid game nowadays wont have you and the NPCs falling through the ground and walls. This along with those massive AI screw ups really turned me off.
Repetitive. Everyones defense seems to be "oh but all games are repetitive". Not like this one. Play the first two hours over and over, and its same as playing through to the end.
Now for the nit picky. These aspects don't hamper the game, but while im pointing things out....for a main character to have such great animations, all the NPC animations look like absolute **** On the flip side NPCs have great vo while the main man sounds like a douche. Your a bad ass assassin, but you cant swim? You can scale all these buildings, but you cant climb a tree?
The graphics look decent though and thats about the only good thing I can say about the game.

Most of those are valid points (except about the technical issues - I honestly haven't experienced one issue since downloading the patch, and the story which is simply a matter of opinion), but they don't necessarily make it a "crap game." They're flaws, but not exactly gamebreakers for most people - there is something between "crap" and perfection, you know? Something like the 7- or 8-range... A "bad," "crap," or "god awful" game would be one that is simply broken and that can be enjoyed by very few, not one that has some flaws that are easily overlooked by many (critics and gamers alike).
Well true about the story as that is just my opinion, and also I was done with the game before the patch so I dont know how that worked out. For me it was the first time in years I felt like I wasted good money on a game. For one I set my standards very high, so to be honest yes I am very harsh when it comes to games, especially those with so much hype. I didn't really expect perfection from the makers of Splinter Cell and Prince of Persia ( not sure if they worked on PoP actually), but I did expect something better than the final product. In all honesty I feel like it had great potential, but was rushed out early for holiday sales. Another 6 months to a year and it would have been a beast of a game.
Also I'm drunk as a skunk and being an ass. Im not exactly a politically correct nice guy when I'm drinkin.:P

Yeah, like I said in my first post, I think the hype was set too high for this game, and that can really inflate people's sense of disappointment... As for me, I had never even heard of the game until about 2 days before it was released (seriously), and then I spend 2 weeks listening to people badmouth the game, so I didn't go in with too many expectations. When I got around the picking it up, I ended up pleasantly surprised by how funand engrossing the overall experience really is. But you're right - there is certainly a lot of wasted potential here, and that's always a shame. Oh well, we know there's going to be a sequel...
