I swear, this seems like the most love it or hate it game to come out in some time...

NAY. story line is decent, although the huge cliffhanger at the end just makes the whole thing feel incomplete.
jumping/climbing around the city is the best part about that game... and is most likely the only good part. take out that aspect of the game and it immediately drops down to a 3/10 in my book.

Well, Ratchet and Clank had a cliffhanger, and that didn't seem to bother anyone. Is it really that bad?

I think this is really as objective as you'll get a review, that points the good, the bad and the ugly and not gamespots "perfect review" or gamers that give the game a 10 because free running is awesome.
My recommendation, rent first.

Very good review. Thanks for the insight.
Nay for me. I felt it was boring as hell, but I'm not a big fan of these types of games. Rent it first, you may really like it. :)xboxdevil
same here. NAY!!!
My recommendation, rent first.

I agree with you to rent it first because it is such a love it or hate it game

LOL no, it's just really annoying seeing my favorite game getting bashed by so many people without even giving it a fair chance. Besides people say it's repetitive. Look at my list, how is that repetition? FPS are a lot more repetitive then AC.
here is the way that i view it... and why i say AC is repetitive...
Pickpocketing - other than the 2-3 times when the pick-pocketer starts in an area guarded by guards (in which you will have to do some roof hopping in order to get past those guards), every pickpocket mission is exactly the same. the pickpocketie looks around every 5 seconds, so its all a matter of waiting till he makes his "left-right" head turn before you can easily walk up and steal the note.
Eavesdropping - i don't even consider this a mission. all you do is watch a cutscene. and its not like the ones you need to eavesdrop on are on lookout for potential spies. i have frequently run by them, catch their attention, then run to a bench as they completely forget about me.
Interrogation - wait for the public speaker to go into an alley, and then do a pattern of "punch-defend-block-repeat." sometimes citizens will get on the fight, but it doesn't change the mission at all, as you will still fight in the same manner
Informer Assassinations - these are more assassin-like missions than the real assassinations themselves, since getting caught has a consequence. unfortuneately, you kill the targets the exact same way: walk up, assassinate, blend in, and walk away.
Informer Flag Collecting - i actually liked these missions, and wished they did more. i think that you only get this mission 2-3 times throughout the whole game.
Save Citizens - basically fight guards. if you have counter-killed one gaurd... you counter-killed them all.
Climb View Points - to say this is not repetitive is a lie! why? because within each city section , these dozen or so view points are on 2-3 building structures that were duplicated throughout the city.
Finding Flags - i collected flags that i found when doing something else, but other than that, i don't see the fun in it. this suffers from what all collecting missions do: have players take on a task... not because its fun, but because they have the urge to complete everything
Killing Templars - this is pretty much killing an elite gaurd. they fight the same way, except they can take more hits.
Kingdom Horse Riding - i kinda don't see how this is fun past the first time doing it. you are basically running from point A to B so that you can actually play in the city. and its not like you have to do anything specific while riding the horse, other than getting view points (which i already talked about). you don't have to go into blend mode at any point in Kingdom (which the game encourages you to), since your horse is so fast that any onlooking guard will never catch up. IMO, i think this is why Ubisoft made it so that you don't have to go through Kindom once you hit every city in the game. it is because there really is no reason for that part of the game, other than saying "wow... this game looks beautiful."
You wrote a detailed response and I could argue every point you made, but at teh moment I am watching a TV show. I will return soon to reply and tell you why I disagree.Liquid-Prince
haha... understood. i'm not saying that i have the right opinion... i am just letting people know that those saying that the game is extremely repetitive have some logic in their cynical view.
its one of thoes games, where you hate it right away because you over expect things from it or suck at the gameplay. or you love it because of its uniqueness awesome fun, eye widening graphics and cinematics and awesome assassin fun :) aswell as a solid fighting style.
i say, Yay because i love it :)
Pickpocketing: Not only do you get guards that hinder your mobility, but beggars and drunks. If they hit you, guards become active. If you kill guards then when you re-initialize, there will be other guards saying who did this and any slight movement can inform them.
Eavesdropping: Not much variety I agree, but getting to the actual eaves-droppings takes skills because sometimes they are hidden and guarded.
Interrogation: If you don't escape quick enough you can trigger chases.
Informer Assassination:By far the most varied. When there is drunks around the task becomes very difficult because once you get pushed you go into informed state and must fight or escape. If you kill the drunks first you will go into the assassination mission informed.
Save Citizens: Always fun to counter kill using different weapons. Also try assassinating two or more before the guards even realize they are fighting.
View points: Always fun. There is a lot of variety even though some of the viewpoints are duplicates. Besides later on they are guarded a lot more so if you want to be stealthy there is an actual thought process.
Flags and Templars:Fun little bonuses. Try killing all the Templars without actually alerting them.
Kingdom Horse Riding: If you don't find this fun then you are just going from point A to point B, and not actually exploring the tons of mini villages in between.
the story is pretty good, it has amazing graphics and it s fun to just run around on roof tops. its not worth buing over other games that are out there but it is a good game none the less. ( I got it for 45 bucks and cod4 for 45 bucks at best buy!)
