Poll At what price would you buy a PlayStation VR day one? (30 votes)
Now knowing that the Oculus Rift has been priced at $600, what is your maximum pain threshold to be an early adopter of Sony’s VR headset?

I would probably pick it up at 299$. It's a solid price I can invest in. Otherwise I will wait until it hits that price point.
I'm not paying more than $300 for it. If that means I'm waiting a couple years, so be it. I'm not buying day one regardless as I'm still jaded about the way PSV early adopters were treated; promises of AAA on the go action and two years later Sony doesn't even support the damn thing.
I expect Playstation VR to fail since the PS4 is not powerful enough to deliver a good virtual reality experience, Sony has a history of not supporting their peripheral devices very well, and VR cannot reach it's full potential on a closed platform like the PS4. Therefore, I don't expect to buy Playstation VR. I will instead buy either the Oculus Rift or the Vive, so I can get a good virtual reality experience.
@GTR12: not at all. there is no way they develop 100 decent games at the beginning given how long it takes to develop a good game. most of them are demos and crap short games to show the features developed by themselves. simple content most probably that you wont want to look second time. 100 dance centrals is not different than 1 dance central
VR is the next state in gaming and entertainment, I will invest up to $400, other wise, yes I'd go with Oculus
I'd be happy at $300. However, I'd still purchase it day one at $400. Anything beyond that, and I'll just wait till it comes down or mess around with the Vive.
Where is the option for it doesn't matter what the price is I won't be getting it?
I think I will wait a year or so and see if Sony loses interest in supporting it like they do with so many of their products before I commit to it. Plus honestly VR doesn't interest me that much. I've been through VR being the next big thing before, and it never worked out in the past. Yes I know the technology is better now, but still most people will ignore it. If it actually has legs after a few years, then I will get interested.
I'm not interested in VR at the moment but if it was £100, curiosity might get the better of me but with the current price and the lack of viable gaming options, my interest is as low as possible.
I would wait until there is a game that would be a must buy for me. Sony has 100 games in development for PS VR so there is a chance that a game I will just have to play will appear on PlayStation VR. Sony could do well to offer a PS4 console and PSVR in a bundle. Which would work if Sony has a VR game that is a killer App. Like Tetris was for the original Gameboy.
So a $600.00 for a bundle with PS4 and PSVR headset and a VR game. That would inspire the average mainstream consumer to try PSVR.
But for 35 million people who already have PS4 then PSVR headset with a game for $300.00 would be the price.
Sony will have to be patient in order for PlayStation VR to catch on. More so than Sony was when PSvita launched.
Playstation VR is not a recommend thing to be bought.. Nowadays many people prefer to play in PS4 and other.
PSVR can be seen as wasting your money instant of buying something worthy.
I strongly believe a computer algorithm wrote this.

Great examples of reasonable price points.

I voted $400 as well. I would love Sony to treat this as a loss leader, and price it at $299 to get audiences interested. I'm an early adopter of most non-Microsoft technology. I'm still enjoying the hell out of my 3D curved TV if that's any indication of the 'fad' toys that others would pass on.
Some of these prices people are saying is really stupid..... Im from UK and seeing $200 from people is really ridiculous. IT'S VIRTUAL REALITY!!! I'd be happy to pay and guessing it'll be around £500-£600 with £800-£900 bundle of Playstation move, headphones, vr and a launch title. Come on people think a little.

I strongly believe you are wrong.

And that's why you don't work for Sony.
Pricing an accessory 2x or 3x the price of the base device is extremely stupid from a PR perspective and suicidal of Sony.
@GTR12: When converted to USD, @gatsby_horror guess of £500-£600 would be depressingly high. From the other side, he was pointing out that people want to pay $200 for this -- which is unrealistic. As consumers, we all wish that the newest iPhones and VR gear can be cheap and come with a free game, but our wallets are going to feel some pain at launch.

399 at most. 499 was my ceiling for the oculus... Though I will probably cave on that when people start getting their retail units in March..
You have to be on crack to spend $600 on the Oculus Rift. I am very interested in virtual reality gaming but I would never buy it on day 1. Just like the game systems, it will be very expensive and have very small library. It is better to wait for virtual reality so Sony can fix any bugs, build a good library and lower the price.
The good news is that gamers who tried it out are going crazy about it.
I feel like buying a PC peripheral also has inherent risks at such a high cost. If I were to spend $600 on the Oculus Rift, there is nothing keeping them from coming out with OR 1.5, 2.0, 2.5 every six months to keep up with PC technology.
A similar investment in a console VR headset might be a safer bet, since they would most likely keep major hardware upgrade cycles limited to one per console. Most consumers would be rightly pissed if the Playstation VR became obsolete before the PS4 was put out to pasture, much less every year.
I hear that the PSVR has an external processing unit. What I would like to see is a PS4VR unit that has that component incorporated. I'm not a fan of clutter.
@GTR12: Did you mean highly unlikely? If so, I would ask if you've ever heard of a PS3 slim or a MacBook Air.
Instead of downsizing the form factor on the later, they invented new battery technology that filled every possible nook and crevice to add value to the current body. Instead of downsizing a PS4, they can reduce the 20nm fabrication down to 14nm (don't quote me on their actual tech specs, this is just a hypothesis) to reduce the size of the internal components to fit more into the same shell. Thus, allowing them to fit the VR internals in a future revision of the PS4 -- which I coin the name PS4VR.

Yes I meant unlikely, was a typo.
Still wont happen, its the size of a Wii (roughly half the PS4) and technology wont move that quickly that you can downsize something that big into the size of a mobile.
Also don't forget that there are internals of the headset, some of which cant be downsized.
I wouldn't buy it at launch. Maybe if I hear some cool things about it and it massively drops in price, I'll pick it up eventually, but it's not on my radar atm.
@gatsby_horror: no so far you control the camera with your head in a first person view... and the graphics are crappy but since you have the screen so close to your eyes it feels more like you are there.
I've seen many vids of Pewdiepie, Markiplier and on the React channel to not be very interested

It's not just the screen being close to your eyes. They use special lenses to warp the image and fill your FOV. If it was just a screen, you wouldn't be able to make out much.
