Avatar so EPIC it broke my PS3!

Tittle says it all. Half way through the movie it stopped working. BAM yellow light of death. Called Sony and they are replacing my orginal 60GB ps3 wilth a new slim one for $150. However, after a few google searches I found out Avatar (on Blu Ray) was doing this to other Blu Ray players. I searched even more for Sony ps3 news regarding this. I found nothing. Do any of you know if i can get some money coming my way or get my ps3 replaced for free? oh and I advise everyone on here to be carefull watching this movie on their ps3.

That sucks man. I know word was spreading that Blu-Ray players across all manufactures needed a firmware update to run the movie; but to have it completely crash your console is beyond me.

Unfortunately I don't see anything else you can do but have Sony repair it. :(

it looked incredible. it was funny though seeing it only in 3D in theaters then watching it without it at home. In my head I said "where did the 3D go?"

oh and I advise everyone on here to be carefull watching this movie on their ps3.

Why would you expect Sony to pay you money for getting the YLOD while watching Avatar? It's just a coincidence that it happened while you were watching the movie. I'm sure if you weren't watching the movie, it would still have happened if you were playing a game. Tough luck on the ps3 though.ExoticAnimal

Huh, thats funny. When I saw it in theaters and put on the glasses I had to ask "where did the 3D go?" It didn't seem like there was any difference from 2D, except maybe a chair or table being slightly closer.

Same with me but I found out not all movie theaters have real Imax 3-D. I saw the film in I guess I would say fake 3D then in Real 3D and it makes a difference *But I'm still not a fan of Avatar it was ok*

Avatar was all flash and no substance. People just went to go see it cause they heard it looked good and that its been in production for over 10 years. Similar to how everyone went to go see Transformers 1 and 2. It looks good,...so it must be good.

look online for a few seconds, the movie is doing this to other blu ray players. I havent had any problems with my ps3 before.

That sucks. IMO that movie was not that great. Dont freak out at me. but you would think a movie so EPICALLY hyped would really be that good. I didnt even get hyped for it.

That's terrible. Good thing I felt Avatar was hugely overrated and have zero intention of buying its Blu-Ray.

Finally watched it this morning on my PS3, movie was ok. Good thing they did lots of advertising to entice all those feeble minds out there as other than the visuals the rest of the movie/story was weaksauce. I knew what was gonna happen before it happened. You don't need anything you just think you do!

I'm keen to get the movie, for visuals only, I agree that District 9 was the best movie last year, Avatar was average at best and the 3d wasnt anything revolutionary like everyone says it is, I enjoyed the 3d in Coraline waaay more.

Avatar was a great movie. I wouldn't say it was the best movie ever made but, it was still great. I'm sure the Blu-Ray version will be awesome but, I'd settle for just the regular DVD;) sorry to hear about your PS3 as well.:(

i got it a cpl days ago. watched it twice on my slim with zero problems. im runnin firm update 3.15 too. so havin a current update is not an issue.

there is oxygen. just not enough for humans to live on. thats why all the animals and aliens respritorily breathe, there is plant life, and when they show the planet from afar it has a dense atmoshere surrounding it. the gravity is heavier than that of ours though.

and like someone else said...its a movie man. giant blue aliens that use their ponytails to talk to trees...and you use oxygen as your plot hole lol.

Makes no sense man... it just ruined the whole thing for me. The plant life could always use whatever it is the Na'vi inhale. Anyway... it may be just a movie, but you try telling that to the legions of people who are trying to learn the Na'vi language.

Well I just saw Avatar about 3 hours ago on blue ray and my ps3 turns out fine and everything with the updates a few days ago. (Great movie btw)
