backing up my ps3?

i got a question about backing up my ps3. if i run a usb cable from my ps3 to my computer will i be able to back up my data on the computer. im looking at getting a bigger hard drive.

anyone?

i back up saves and stuff on my external WD, dunno about a PC.

My PS3 just died, again, error 80010514. Sony won't help either. F**K SONY.
