Backing up the Ps3

How do we back up the PS3 onto an external hardrive ? Will the back up include save files ?

Note: I'm not a Psplus member so I don't back up to the cloud.

there is a backup option in the xmb it backed up everything for me (downloaded games, saves, videos, etc) when I upgraded my HD ...though I had heard stories that some things did not backup for people...weird took a long while thoughrawsavon

"Downloaded games"!? Really? o_O

That was using the "Backup Utility" of the XMB? Or you used the "Transfer to a New PS3" option? :? :? (I don't remember the actual name, sorry...)

I keep pluging in my hard drive and the PS3 wont detect any of them. It just detects flash drives and they dont have enough space.

external drive has to be formatted correctly (fat 32) here you gorawsavon
