Backup copyprotected savefiles

Hey!

My PS3 keeps on freezing all the time, so i have decided to exchange it with a new PS3. The only problem is that i have a level 712 Demon's Souls character which is copy-protected. I have also read that if you backup copy-protected files, you can only restore them to the same PS3 system. So is there anyway for me to backup my Demon's Souls save file and play it on a new PS3 along with all the other save files?

I think you're supposed to do this: http://au.playstation.com/ps3/support/network/detail/item250046/Use-the-data-transfer-utility/ But I think you need both at the same time. Maybe work out a deal with the place where you'll exchange it?
