do you think sony should release a patch or an update for free or that you can pay for for backwards compatibility with ps2 games for people like me with the new 80 gb

if you have ps2 games , then u shold have a ps2.. if u dont , then just play next gen gamestrue but alot of people[Like myself]would love to just play our PS2 games in our PS3.It is not our fault that we did not get to snag a NEW 20.60.or 80 gig PS3 when availible. It makes no sense that they would take something like that out of the PS3s.Yes.I know you should be more worried about playing PS3 games in your PS3,but it is also a nice feeling of being able to play your older PS2 titles aswell.
Or buy yourself a ps2 (which aint expensive)

They should, but its can't ever happen, you'd need hardware, not softwareTehSonofUgly
wrong, half the consoles with bc are done by software.

I know, this whole discussion has been discussed a bunch of times. It is possible for Sony to do it.I just hope that they will stop worrying about which console they can take off the market next and put more thought into something like this. They should, but its can't ever happen, you'd need hardware, not softwareTehSonofUgly
It is possible and called software emulation.

NO. The 80gb PS3's with PS2 BC DO still have the PS2 graphics synthesizer on board. The Emotion Engine is the only part that is software emulated. We (you, not me since I have a launch model) are SOL as far as pure software PS2 emulation is concerned. I don't think the PS3 is capable of it, since I don't believe there is even a full speed PC version available.
