i have an original 60gb ps3 with the backwards compatability. i finally picked up god of war 2 and now the ps3 is having some serious trouble reading the ps2 discs. does a place like gamestop fix this kind of thing? and how much would that cost?

From what I understand, some PS3's have compatibility issues with certain PS2 games. I'm not too sure about the 60GB system though, because I think it's one of the few models that actually has the hardware to run PS2 games; therefore I would think it should be able to run all PS2 games. If that is the case, then I would suggest that you try to see if your copy of God of War 2 works on a PS2 console, if it doesn't work then maybe there's something wrong with the disc. Best of luck mondomae!

That's odd, I have the 80GB with emulation BC and GOW2 works mostly fine, only has the occasional audio blip. Give Sony a call, or Gamestop I guess, and see what they say.

Is the disc in good shape? Unfotunately I only have the first God of War, but it works perfectly fine on my 60 (now 320) GB PS3.
