I have a 20GB PS3 with the Emotion Engine chip (hardware emulation of PS2).

I know they don't make them anymore. They use software emu now, or something.

Question is, did they force the 20GB and 60GB units into software emulation in any new updates, or do

these units still use hardware emulation?

Thanks

You don't think they stopped hardware emulation or they don't use hardware emulation. Sorry, my question is a bit redudant.

I think the 20 and 60 gig use hardware emulation (If there any to be found) and the later 80 gig uses software emulation. Like I said, I THINK.

The 20 and 60 GB systems out there are still using the EE chipset- they did not lock it out with any firmware updates. I have the 20 GB as well and have had no problems at all.

I also have the 20GB. Both the 20GB and 60GB systems have the full ps2 hardware on board and rely on the hardware to playback ps2 games. The 80GB system lacks the Emotion engine but has the graphics synthesizer and thus use's software emulation to make up for the missing hardware. So if you have the hardware, then yes, your system will still resort to it as it has a much higher compatibility with ps2 games then the software option.

The 20 and 60 gig have the EE chip in NTSC regoins, The PAL 60's never had the EE chip but used same software emulation as the 80 gig systems.
