Im not sure if this applies to your area aswell but in Jacksonville florida gamespot is accepting no Pre-orders for the PS3/MGS 4 80GB bundle because it will be "very very Limited". Apparently getting one will be very tough. Of course, this does not apply too current PS3 owner's only PS3 buyer's, me for example. I have a good friend that works at a local gamespot to snag me one so im lucky. Its a 80GB PS3 with all the current features and about 80% BC for PS2 games. Not a big deal but if you are planning to buy a PS3 soon and you want or love MGS, this is probably the perfect time this year to do it.

Its $500 retail, but it totally beats the current 40GB model.

Hopefully everyone that wants it, can get their hands on it. Good luck Fellow Gamers.

(NOTE: Some of this Info. i collected (although its pretty much common sense) may not be entirely True. The bundle is coming, but the specifics might not be exact. Im am positive about the BC though.)

Why not just buy a ps3 then the game afterwards, does the bundle come with some special ps3 thats has a pic of snake on it or something, im not sure or is it just a ps3 with the game bundled in.

I'm not surprised. But if game store fail you, Walmart might get a decent "untouched" supply. If that fails, then you're better off just getting a PS3 and MGS4 separate.

Also the BC will be the same as any other non 60gb ps3 as its all done through software now which comes through system updates so whatever games are BC with the newer models of ps3 will be excatly the same as this mgs4 ps3.

The bundle is the 80GB model, so you're essentially getting a larger hard drive and backwards compatibility for an extra $40. The 40 GB model has no backwards compatibility with PS2 games.

I forgot about the duel shock crap, its whatever for that but the guy told me at gamestop that BC is a hardware add-on and can't be changed through online up-dates.

Is this true?

Seems like hassle for no reason, you can buy a 40gb ps3 for $399(i think im from the uk) not sure how much the 80gb im guessing $499, well if thats the case your saving $100(£50) so if its easy to get then its worth it but i personally wouldnt bother if it was going to be hassle or waiting to play metal gear i'd just buy the ps3 and the game and a dual shock.

I bought my ps3 last august 1 week after the first showing of metal gear solid 4, i got the 60gb version the uk version so no emotion chip, although im not bothered i have a slim ps2 and i have not played a ps2 games since i have had the new consoles.

If the ps3 had some great imprint picture of solid snake or something then maybe i would be interested if i didnt own a ps3 but since it sounds like its going to be a hassle to get one just for the bundled game and controller i wouldnt bother.

I suppose the TC has one through a friend so thats not so bad.

CoreoVII

No, BC at the start was done through the emotion chip, which was a piece of hardware inside the ps3, but sony stripped it out to reduce the price and now do BC through software just like MS, all it means is not every game is BC but i think sony continue to add games through software updates not sure they may have stopped doing that now.

But yes BC can be changed through updates.

Yeah. Same as the PS2. But it isn't an add on. The PS2 had some of PS1's hardware right in the board so it could play PS1 games. Considering at the time, the PS2 would need a hard drive and create a severely restricted PS1 software emulator which can't make the promis that all PS1 game would run 100% all the time. Same goes for PS3, all hardware. So it cannot be canceled out (even if they tried, I think it would affect a lot more than just PS2/PS1 games)

Sorry thats right, the 80gb had the software BC, and the 40gb has none, my bad.

So many sku's this gen from sony/ms it gets confusing, do they still make the 80gb in the u.s or is it 40gb only now?. i know its 40gb only in the uk, im pleased i got the 60gb while i could although its just a few media card slots missing and software bc in the 40gb, and the hdd can be upgraded.

They discontinued the 80GB (which I think had Motorstorm at the time) so they could switch the game out for MGS4.

*sigh* Someone please make a sticky of this. TWO Bundles for the United States.

1st: MSRP $499.98

Includes: 80GB Piano Black Playstation 3 (has Backwards Compatibility with both PS1 and about 85% of all PS2 games) Dualshock 3 controller, and a copy of the standard $59.99 version of Metal Gear Solid 4. According to various retailers, this bundle will not have a pre-order because Sony has yet to determine how many each store will receive. All preorders for this bundle through buy.com and other sites were cancelled as per request by Sony. It is estimated that there will be enough in production to supply each person who wishes to purchase one up until the years end, much like the 80GB Motorstorm bundle.

2nd: MSRP $599.98

Includes: 40GB Gun Metal Gray Playstation 3 (has Backwards Compatibility for PS1 games only) Dualshock 3 controller (in matching Gun Metal Gray color), and a copy of the $84.99 Metal Gear Solid 4 Limited Edition. This edition is in very limited quantaties, and can only be preordered through www.Konami.com starting on May 19th, 2008. Considered as a collectors item.

Both Bundles have been officially stated by Sony and Konami reps to be released alongside the game on June 12th, 2008. Konami has the 2nd Bundle viewable on their site, with price, release date as June 12th and specifications listed.

Thanks for the info, everything else has been flogged to death but there has been a just amount of speculation on the amount being released so hopefully you are right. I think you should start a new thread and repost what you just said and hopefully that will get stickied. The MGS4 bundle questions are always the same questions...
