How many hours of gameplay is this game? Is it worth getting and is it like a ratchet and clank sort of game where you have levels, or is it like GTA where you can free explore and take on missions?

I spent over 12 hours on the game, and that's not including any repeat playthroughs, challenge modes, etc. If the mission structure was to be affiliated with any other game, it would definitely have the most in common with a Metroid game. You pretty much are given everything in plain sight from the very beginning, but to access many areas, you're constantly having to upgrade your gear and abilities to advance. Despite a seemingly open world of Arkham Asylum, it's an incredibly linear game. Personally, I love this because it lets developers really go wild with their ideas and not have to worry about player interference to set events. Bottom line: At least rent it.

It took me about 15 hours (I think) to beat the game and get all the optional Riddler challenges. The game takes place in a consistent world, but progresses in a linear fashion (no GTA-style missions). I'd agree with hazel in comparing it to Metroid. A lot of people have also compared it to Bioshock, but I think it has more backtracking to previous areas than Bioshock does.
