I don't play my PSP that often, but it seems like every time I pick it up, the battery is dead (maybe once every couple weeks). Is this typical, or is my battery draining abnormally fast?

Depends how long you play it for and whether you turn if off "properly". If I didn't touch mine for two weeks then yeah I think I'd expect to need to charge it!

Turn it off "properly"? I just hit the power switch when i need to turn it off, I'm not sure how else you'd turn it off. And I didn't know if the battery was supposed to hold the charge or not, that's why I asked. I was afraid that I needed to replace my battery soon.

If you just hit the power switch, then you turn your PSP into sleep mode, so it only drains less energy, but it's not completely off. If you want to turn it off completely, hold the power switch for a few seconds.
