I bought my PSP over a year ago from Best Buy, and I purchased the 'Product Replacement Plan'. When I purchased the PRP, they told me if I had ANY problem whatsoever with my PSP, I could just bring the unit into any store and swap it for a new one.

Forward to the present - my PSP's analog stick is busted. The button came off a while ago, so I bought a peripheral stick to accomodate, but since then the whole stick has been rendered largely useless. This happened once before and I brought it in, swapped it out - no questions asked. Took all of maybe 20 minutes. I purchased another PRP for the new unit.

When I brought this PSP to Best Buy to swap it out, they told me they had JUST changed the PRP policy THAT DAY. Now, when you want to swap an item with the PRP program, you have to call an 800 number, get a return label emailed to you, print the return label and tape it to a box and mail it in to them. They in turn mail you a voucher or a check for the price of the item. Then you can take your voucher to your local Best Buy and use it to get another item.

This aggravates me for a number of reasons, namely the inconvenience of it all. What used to take a quarter of an hour is now going to take me a month or more to get rectified. This is a completely backwards policy change.

Another point which really grates my cheese - I have to mail in the ENTIRE contents of the PSP's original box. INCLUDING the MEMORY STICK. What the hell am I supposed to do when I go get my new PSP? Just start from scratch with all of my games? The songs and pics and vids I have on there I can just download from my computer again, but what about my games? Does anyone know of a way to transfer saved game files? Not to mention that I'll be without my PSP for those weeks when all of this transpires.

I would be okay with it if this was the policy when I purchased the PSP. I feel as though anyone who purchased a Product Replacement Plan before they changed the policy should be able to hold Best Buy to the original agreement.

If I try to fight the policy change, it will probably take longer to get my PSP replaced than if I just sucked it up and mailed the stupid thing in. But this still doesn't fix the problem with the memory card.

I'm done. I'm going to go argue with the manager at Best Buy. Maybe if I make a scene, he'll just swap it out just to hush me up and get me out of the store.

although i understand your situation, you can blame the people who go into trading in their PSP's for minor defects such as a "stuck" or "Dead" pixel.  Because SO many people were doing this, Best Buy changed their policy with the PSP's all together.  I don't blame them, if i was a retailer i would'nt want people lining up for an exchange because of 1 small defect.

Gamestop/EB Games don't even take PSP's back unless there are more than 13 dead pixels.  As you can see Best Buy is actually being the better at pleasing their customers.  if you really want it fixed then just take a few extra steps and don't complain.  As everyone has had similar situations like yours and sucked it up.

Don't worry. You can back up your Save Game files as well just like all your Music and Videos.

Just copy and paste all your folders from your MS into the PC folder (Maybe naming the folder "PSP backup").

Then when u get a new MS and PSP, just reformat the MS using your PSP and then copy all the folders and replace them back into your new MS.

Thanks, I actually just figured that out. I should have guessed. I was too heated from the initial aggravation to think straight.

I didn't even bother going to Best Buy, I'll just mail it in and deal with it. Just chaps my ass that they sold me on one service and are giving me something entirely different. That's what my gripe was about. The end result is the same; a new PSP. I'll deal.

No, I realize that. My initial post was just to blow off some steam about being sold one thing and given another. I'm moving forward with mailing it in. I realize Best Buy changed the policy to protect their profit margin, but I still feel that anyone who bought a replacement plan under the old policy guidelines should be honored with their purchase. I was sold a specific service, that's what I paid for. If I bought the PSP and the plan under the new guidelines and they told me "If it breaks, you need to mail it in for a voucher", then I would have no problem. When I paid for this, however, they told me "If it breaks, take it to any Best Buy in the country and they'll swap it out right there on the spot". This appealed to me largely because I am an over-the-road truck driver. The old policy is very convenient for someone who travels as much as I do. I don't disagree with the new policy, I disagree with the new policy being implemented on plans sold before the policy change was to take effect.

You're right though. Best Buy is much more lax than EB/Gamestop. I am just going to suck it up and deal with it. No more crying like a sissy. I promise.

I would have to agree on this.

Yes... I'm the guy that embarrasses his wife and daughter by screaming for hours on end when I feel like I'm getting screwed.

If Best Buy gave you the product replacement plan with the concept that if anything happened to your PSP, then they should honor that.

It doesn't matter that they changed the policy after you paid for it.. You paid for a service that would replace your PSP IN STORE if something were to happen to it, no matter what it was.

Yeah... You didn't sign anything, but that was a contract... a binding agreement, and what they did to you was completely absurd.

You deserve a replacement PSP as soon as you get to the store because that was the agreement that you made with Best Buy..... THERE ARE NO EXCEPTIONS!

I can guarantee that no matter what action I would have to take, I would be walking out of the store with a new PSP.

I don't care what the new policy is... The policy that I paid for is a legal binding agreement and they have to honor that.

Best Buy is giving no favors. This individual paid for the 'insurance' policy. This therefore legally binds Best Buy to replace his PSP. No favor is involved in that at all. And I agree that Best Buy shouldn't be changing their policy on a whim to people who purchased a protection plan prior to the policy change. They should have honored your original agreement.

For people with OCD or perfectionists, one stuck/dead pixel can annoy them to no end and make it nearly impossible for them to enjoy their PSP.

You are 100% right. I purchased a PS3 from EB Games, and bought the in-store warranty. Then they decided to change the warranty 2 months after I bought it, and instead of giving you a new console, they give you a refurbished unit. This is completely unjust. I wouldn't have bought this 1 year warranty if I would have known that, because I can get a refurbished unit with my 1 year manufacturer's warranty. If it breaks down, then I will be in there yelling until they give me a new unit, or security takes me out. :)

Here's a new development: Apparently the "voucher" they've been harping about is actually a Gift Card for the amount of the item purchased. If this is the case, this may actually work in my favor, as when I bought the PSP (I got the 'Giga Pack' version with the 1g Memory Stick) it was $300. Now they're down to $160? Maybe even less. If I do wind up with a 300 dollar gift card, I can just buy the new PSP and spend the rest on porn. Er... I mean 'games'. Oops.

I worked at Bestbuy about 10yrs ago, so obviously some stuff may have changed, however the policy back then officially is the process you laid out above, calling the number and whatnot. This is what the PRP actually would say if you read it (again, may have changed by now).

Now, unofficially, they would allow you to swap it out in store. They sold it by having the sales people saying you could swap it out in store and honored it. Occasionally someone would actually read the PRP and complain that its terms were diffferent then what I just recited.

It is no suprise they decided to follow the official policy now, however if they told you they'd do the swapout, they SHOULD honor it, but wheres your proof. You know they told you they'd swap it out, I believe you, but again, you have no physical proof. Its screwed up, I don't know how you could win that arguement other than raising hell and hoping that the store manager would believe and honor your request for a swap, but to be honest, thats about a 50/50 chance of it happening. What Id do is try a different store, they may still honor the swapout policy.

However, I probably would actually prefer to call the number up because the voucher they send you is worth the amount you paid for the item, not the amount its worth now, which can be spent on ANYTHING you want at Bestbuy. If you got a $199 core system, you just saved yourself $30, probably enough for a new PRP.
