now, this is really serious for me. I wanna know, what are the pros and cons you all have encountered. I know the 360 has the RROD. but does the PS3 have anything like that? I haven't seen a topic about this or anything, so what's your advice for me?

Honestly...no. I haven't found anything wrong with my PS3. It has frozen up a couple times, but that was a common problem from what I saw on forums and Infinity Ward's website and such. I love the built in hard drive for the ps3 and the free online service. Quality...and freeness! PS3 is well worth your money my friends =)

I think the PS3 failure rate is almost non-existant. As long as you keep it in an open space and clean the diust off of it from time to time then nothing should go wrong.

really? no problems? that sounds pretty sweet! the built in HDD is what appeals to m, and free online. I'm gonna get it mainly for the exclusives. LBP, Resistance 1 & 2, and Infamous look pretty solid to me. I'll take your words for. :D

Honestly, the only other thing is make sure if you are big on the PS2 games to get the 80 gig HD version with MGS 4 in order to get Backward capability. If not, then just get the biggest hard drive you can afford. Other than that, enjoy the PS3 when you get it! ^_^

PS3s failing is very uncommon. My PS3 hasn't shown any signs of failing, but then again... it just sits there collecting dust.

I'll go a little beyond hardware reliability. I own a PS3 and 360, so I'll give you the PS3's pros and cons compared to the other.

Pros:

Much less likely to break down (as others have stated).

Free to play online

The most powerful console of this generation

Less hostile online community

Cons:

There are very few big name exclusives currently available (MGS4 being a huge exception).

PSN does not even come close to the great downloadable game selection of the xbox live marketplace.

The game selection is way oversaturated with first person shooters (ironic, considering the same was true of the original xbox).

Well, over here you might get biased answers but, to tell you the truth their is some problems with the PS3 but not as much as red rings i think. There been post of couple users on gamespot forums atleast couple times a month saying something is wrong with their ps3. Yea I do believe that kind of things that they have yellow light on the system for Hard drive failure or system failure, Things like hdmi problem and also things like the ps3 wont read discs. Even tho the PS3 doesn't break much as other systems. But the fee for fixing a PS3 is very exspensive...

Overall I do love the console.

There are less big name exclusives but massively marketed games don't equal extremely good games as 360 fanboys will try to get u to believe. Try out Uncharted, Ratchet and Clank, MGS4, Warhawk, Resistance 1, and especially some of the upcoming exclusives Resistance 2, LBP, Motorstorm: Pacific Rift, Killzone 2, and White Knight Chronicles. The PS3 has much more it offers than most non-owners believe.

cons: high price. At least right now the games have slightly more blurry textures than the other system. i think its do to a bottle neck of the texture memory in the ps3. Still looks great but in games like GTA4 that are on both systems the textures tend to be a little sharper on the other system.the other systems online is from what I have heard a little better.

pros: reliable hardwear!!,blue ray player, easy and cheap to up grade the harddrive, motion controls, great exclussives, free psn acount, plus the futer potentale of the blue ray and the cell cpu means its much more futer proof than the other system. the devs have yet to make full use of cell. becasue all the games install on the HDD games the games tend to load faster and have less load screens when played on ps3.doubles as a gorge formen grill hehehehe

Its been a little slim on softwear up till now, but we are getting some realy awsome games in a month or so that realy narrows the gap with the other system.we already have MGS4,uncharted and GT5pbut with resisitenc2 killzone2 and LBP we are in great shape exclussive wise. All in all i think the two systems are pretty dang close in softwear. right now the games look just about even graphicly though some multi platform games as i said have a slight edge with textures on the other system. But from what iv seen and read that is soon to not be the case anymore. the two things that realy made me choose the ps3 over the other system was reliabilty of the hardwear and blueray player. i mean a stand alone blue ray player even the cheapist ones cost about as much as a ps3 and the good ones cost more. Plus the blueray player in the ps3 is a good one from what i have read. Also its so great to be able to up grade my harddrive to the size and brand of my choice. just put in a western digitel 320 gig HDD for 110.00$ roughly same price that the other system forces you to pay for a 120giger.

I have many friends that have the ps3 and out of like fifteen systems. One of my friends had the Blu-ray player go out on him but Sony fixed it right away and got it back to him within like 2 or 3 weeks.

xbox live has much more to offer than psn, but psn being free totally outweighs the fee for xbox live.

xbox does have some cool exclusives but most of those games are on pc as well. They do not come out at the same time but they always come out for pc. Also rrod has been fixed in the new systems they run a lot better - unfortunately though not any quieter.

The big pro for me in the ps3 is that I have only played a couple of games that I thought were lame. There are mostly good solid games on the console. The 360 is blown over with crappy games making it hard to find the good games that are there.

There are a lot of FPS games out there but I would hardly say the PS3's game selection is "saturated" with them. There are plenty of action/adventure and platforming games out there and even a few RPGs.

As for the TC's question, the pros of the PS3 for me were:

Awesome exclusives (especially the ones that will be coming out next month), built-in blu ray, built in wireless, free online play, huge hard drive, and almost non existant failure rate. Hope that helps! :)

My PS3 stopped playing blue-ray disks 6 months after I got it. I got it fixed thankfully but if it happens again I'm screwed. I have the 80gig and I got it cause I know what games I want and they are only on the PS3. Uncharted, Disgaea 3, and Warhawk. I haven't really bought any multi-plat games (except for RB) because the games just seem to be not as good as they could have been had they just been tailored for a specific system.

My first ps3 died after about a month so I took it back to the store. They exchanged it for a new one and 6 months later I'm playing it all day, everyday with no complaints. Great system!

PS3

The Good - No failure rate, free online, multimedia machine, blu ray player, web browser & youtube, solid upcoming exclusives,se**,silent, digital sorround sound upto 7.1 channel for movies ;) and thats all i guess.

The Bad - Currently suffering from a small library(Soon to be fixed) thats all i guess.

My personal experience is that when i got my Xbox 360 i enjoyed it alot.In those days PS3 HARDLY had any titles and i was waiting for main titles to come out on PS3 so i could sell my 360.When MGS4 came out,i did so and got myself a PS3 40 GB.Currently enjoying it ALOT ! And am glad to own one only because of games like Little big planet,KZ2 and Heavy Raing !

No electronic is free from having a potential problem, with that said the PS3 failure rate is low, a lot lower than the 360 (and I prefer the 360) but there has been problems reported like freezing, the YLOD (HDD failure), stops reading discs, etc. The only problem I have had is freezing which happens a lot but only when I use the web browser, for as powerful as this system is supposed to be it cant handle its own features like the web browser and the new in game media bar.

The PS3 comes with a 1yr warranty so you will be covered for awhile after that look into a extended warranty, if not able to it will cost $150 to fix. This system is definitely worth a purchase.

alright TC

PS3 is kinda Expensive, and it sorta freezes, its librabry aint the best, but you'l find atleast 8 nice games that will keep you for awhile(that are out now) and when BIG games come, excpect to get atleast 17/14

the good is that psn is free, but not the best, multimedia, rare freezes, only 12% faliure rate(unless you turn out the main generator) blu-ray and has alot of HDD

I purchased the ps3 60 gig not but a few months after it came out. Since i've had it there haven't been any problems with it. I was surprised to hear about the red rings and other problems the 360 has had. That wasn't the reason I decided to go with the ps3, but given those issues it is a good reason to purchase the ps3 if you must have one of the new consoles.

I've been very happy with the performance and reliability of the ps3. The game library is still not up to par in my opinion - but I understand many new games are coming out. Thank goodness things like MSG4, CoD4, Fallout 3, Bioshock, etc., have or will be coming out.

Many good things about the system and it has great potential.

Given that new blu-ray players are ~$400 and the ps3 is as well... it seems to make sense that you'd pick the ps3. It just seems to me to be a much better value than the x360.

PS3 is built for the future - they can still do so much more with and even in the next few months will bring out funky new innovations (like the keypad you can fix onto your controller) that it is well worth the price...and if your ever in doubt just go check the price of a standard blu-ray player

ps3 is more reliable but the warrenty isnt as good, its covered for only a year and they dont take dusty consoles :P

anyways people who mention how powerful the ps3 is are pretty off base. gpu and ram ps3 and 360 are pretty much dead even some would say the 360 has a slightly more powerful gpu. also while the ps3 cpu has alot of potential when was the last time cpu was responsible for the majority of the graphical output. the one thing the ps3 has over the 360 is blu-ray but even then developers dont use it to its potential most of the time its filled with bloated movie files and redundent regional data. also the blu-ray read speed is a crutch on the ps3 and reason why most games require an install.

also lately the new buzz word people have been throwing around "future proof" this is seriously non-sense as both the 360 and ps3 are already outdated in terms of hardware.

PS3 is a great choice. I have had mine since 1 month after launch with no problems. It has had what I would admit as too much playtime lol. Safe to say, Im not one of those you will hear complaining about the library. I think that depends on the type of gamer you are. There are some genres like RPG which are lacking. If you like shooters, racing, action/adventure, or platformers the PS3 has a very good library. The next couple of months will expand it the lineup greatly and then Killzone 2 hits in February. FREE PSN of course lol. Also PS3 doesnt suit folks that seem to HAVE to buy a game every week or two regardless if its any good. No generic gaming spam like on 360 lol. As for other stuff, PS3 is now my DVD player of choice as well. The HD upscaling adds major quality to all your DVDs. I also use it more for music. It rips CDs into its library, and will also recognize Itunes ripped music encoded as m4a. You can just load your itunes music on a memory stick and then transfer it onto the PS3. Life with Playstation is a great app to run while listening to music. Plus the internet browser works better than I expected. Home is rumored to be out after the 2.5 firmware update next month, but dont qoute me on that. As for Cons? Im not sure I have one other than the price I paid at launch ...$600 OUCH!! Been worth it though. I have neither had problems with the system or problems finding games to play (with the exception of last summer before Warhawk and GRAW2 hit). It has been surprisingly versatile and has gotten more all around use than I could have imagined.
