Best adventure game you've ever played?

Has to be Arkham Asylum for me. I didn't care much for the story or characters, since I'm not such a Batman fan, but the combat in that game sold it for me.

What do you mean by adventure game? If you mean sandbox then I would have to go with Red dead redemption.

Batman was awesome, but Im the opposite of you. Characters, story and atmosphere were the best. The gameplay design (the platforming sections, exploration and stealth rooms) is way better than the core combat.

I guess Heavy Rain. It's an adventure game right?

Best EVER, would be "Drakan: The Ancients' Gates" on the PS2. If you missed it, find it and go "retro" for one of the best action adventure games ever programmed!

Well, dat' WUZ a pretty good'n... honorary mention, perhaps. But I'm still going with "Drakan: The Ancients' Gates" for it's amazing maps, seamless cave system, dynamic spell casting, excellent voice acting, wide variety of monsters, side-quests, characters, and did I mention you get to ride a dragon and it flies perfectly, has upgrading breath weapons, and talks?

Judging from a lot of these responses, I have a different understanding of what an adventure game is. For any platform it has to be Full Throtle (Ripburger for greatest villain!), on PS3 probably Sam and Max Season 3.
