Last Xmas I spent almost all of it playing Gran Turismo 5 (pretty much completed that) and then I switched to NFS Shift 2. Despite all the additional downloadable content I just can't bring myself to play them any more (shift because of it's unrealistic driving physics, and GT5 because of all the crappy cars in it). Does anyone have a suggestion of the best car game for PS3 out right now - or should I give GT5 / NFS2 another chance this Xmas?

I doubt you have completed GT5, and even if you have, play online.

I love those two games too but every car sim has some aspect of it that's not very realistic..I'd say give them another shot but also maybe consider Dirt? I've always been fond of the series. There's also a cheap racing sim on the PSN called superstars v8 racing. It's no where near Gt5 quality but it's a fun alternative if even just for a different experience.

Polyphony plans on supporting GT5 until GT6 comes out which won't be for a long time... More tracks, cars, patches, DLC, ETC... I recently picked up 2 - G27's steering wheels and racing chairs and have another ps3 hooked up to a 10' projector screen with a normal controller... Nothing like a racing simulator party with 2 friends when you can just hop online and race 13 other drivers... Yeah it may have alot of crappy cars but it also has alot of good ones with more on the way... They plan on having a 2 month cycle of DLC where you can expect every 2 months of the foreseeable future...

Need for Speed: Shift is a lot better than the disappointing sequel Shift 2: Unleashed. Split/Second and Burnout Paradise are also really good.

It looks like you like only simulation racing games so try dirt 3 otherwise if u want arcade ones then try nfs run or hot pursuit

I second this opinion, and would add "F1 2011". Outstanding racing. And "NASCAR 2011" is also good. You might look into "V8 Superstars Racing" on PSN, it's cheap and technically as good as any of the sim-type games out there. All of these games are a lot more specific in terms of type and make of car (they are all specialized), but they all offer excellent racing.

:)

Burnout Paradise is excellent...hours upon hours of gameplay in there. The Motorstorm series is awesome too. Try Motorstorm Apocalypse. I liked Split Second as well. Thats about it for racing games that I can recommend.

For Simulation: "V8 racing" will get you by for a reasonable cost

For Arcade: "Burnout Paradise" and "Armageddon Riders" are both excellent

I personally like the Dirt series. I picked up Dirt 2 and 3 for less then 30 bucks. I personally dont think it's possible for GT5 to get old.

How come no one talks about Midnight Club 3?.. I used to have it, well it was ok but maybe you might like it.

MotorStorm, Hot Pursuit, Burnout Paradise. Some of my favorites. GT5 is still the premier experience IMO.
