well i hope your sister puts the car in your name, if she doesn't and she gets back on her feet and if she is desperate you will be scwered. Never under estimate the power of desperation

your paying it over 4 years? if it gets stolen you still have to pay, and you pay more on those types of payments.

shouldve bought it outright- but GOOD ON YA MATE!

well, i kno that, and because of that i got a lock for my door, and i also live in a nice peaceful neighborhood, so i dont expect anything to get stolen...everybody around here is old..lol...newaez i wish i couldve paid it upfront, but i definatly wouldnt have been able to do that, and it wouldve taken me till november to save up that much, while paying for my car...i couldnt wait that long for it....im just super happy to have a new ps3 =] ive been up with it all night, downloading demos and trailers! i feel like ive bought the best thing ever!!

You must be young, taking on payments like that. Did you do the numbers and figure the amount of interest your gonna have to pay for borrowing your PS3 for 4 years.

My suggestion is save up and pay it off as soon as possible, its seems like a great deal now, but wait a couple years until you are still paying for it. Gets irritating, but hey, that just my 2 cents.

To be honest, it isn't as bad as you make it sound. 16 * 46 = 736, so he will be paying 735 for the PS3. However, in the mean time, he can also be earning interest on the money he didn't use to pay for the PS3 and offset some of the interest he will be paying on it. I think more people who can't afford a PS3 should do what he did. I myself wouldn't do it because I could afford one straight up, but for those who can't afford one, this isn't that bad of an idea.

I agree, chosing monthly payment options for the PS3 is a bad idea. Yes the PS3 is a very tempting nice piece of hardware, but to be honest I would of waited till you had enough cash to buy it outright.

What I would suggest you do is what vegetattack mentioned: save up and pay it all off immediately. Besides that enjoy the PS3 and everything next gen, and I hope to game with you online !

Classic American. Dont look at the actual price and have money now, pay for 4-5 years with interest so you pay up to 20% more for the item.

Its not only USA. argentina does the same thing. The last HDTV huge sales were due to exellent payments plans that added around 20-30% of interest and sometimes more just to pay it in 3-4 years.

In theory it's not such a bad deal getting the PS3 on credit. But in reality it's more than likely that he would also charge his next game(s), PS3 accesories like an extra controller and cables. He would also get an HDTV to be able to watch blu-ray movies. Before he knows it he's about 2-3 thousand dollars in a hole and that's just for PS3 related stuff. I hope he has more self-control than I did when I was that age, cause it took me more than 10 years to pay off all my credit card balances. But that's also a lesson he has to learn for himself.

One problem though: you would have been better off paying for the whole thing at once because if you miss ONE payment, your interest rate with shoot up like crazy. DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT miss one payment, your your credit will suck ass.

True, BUT if he misses one payment, he'll be in trouble and interest rates will be way up there.. Remember to read the fine prints on those offers.

actually when you buy something with thebestbuy credit card and it gets stolen they clear the debt but you have to prove it.

Nice one, glad you've got a Ps3. Don't worry about the credit - it's the way of the world these days. But as someone said, don't miss a payment. I work in a bank and know a fair bit about finance. Also bare in mind it's a FIXED agreement so don't go back to the store and ask for a payment break for a month or two - they just want their money. Miss a payments frequently and your credit score will suck and they'll be banging on your door asking for the money. And with finance, you never own the product untill the last payment is made. With a credit card, the product is yours as soon as its been purchased.

One final thing for anyone considering finance - REALLY think it through. It's far to easy to see that low monthly payment but consider the length of the term, 4 years is a long time and as that other post said, it can get pretty annoying after 2 years knowing you still have 2 years of payments left to make.

Credit is a service and can be great when used in the right way. I used my credit card to pay for my PS3 @ launch in March and now it's almost payed off. Next thing on the list is a new HD-TV..... :D

It works out to be about 6% annual interest rate (and isnt comound interest for that matter). It sounds like the thread creator doesn't have much of a credit history. He is not likely to find a better interest rate anywhere else. Credit is ok as long as you are smart about it. In fact it is necessary to start building it. It's not a bad deal by any means. Just so long as he is smart about it and pays his bills.

i know you guys are probably thinking im crazy for getting myself into such a crazy perdicument with this ps3, but i know a great deal about money(my sister works in a bank) so i kno not to get into any crazy things unless i know i can pay for it, or is a good offer....i do have a job, and i make 400 bucks a month( i kno it sucks but its a really layed back job) i pay my monthy bill for the car(which is about 200) and insurance( 50 bucks) so that leaves me 150 bucks extra for w/e i need it for, and what my plan to do is save 100 bucks every month and put it all towards the ps3...why am i doing this instead of paying my monthy bill? its because part of the deal was 6 months no interest, so by the time 6 months is up, ill have the full 600 bucks to give them(plus tax) to pay the whole thing off...i am young, but i know how to handle my money...i had about 750 bucks saved since when i started working(2 1/2 months ago) and i woulda been able to pay the ps3 straight up, but i had to give my sister 300 for the car, for registration fees, and to pay my monthly bill, soi still have money saved in the bank, enough to the point that if i get into a sticky situation i can get right out( depending how sticky it is :P

first wat happens is i wake up to my sister saying shes gonna give me her car! and all i have 2 do is make the monthly payments, which is nothing since i have a job...then later on i decide 2 go to best buy just 2 see whats new...and while messing around with the ps3, i find out i can get one by making payments 4 only 16 bux a month, for 46 months!! soo i ofcourse take the offer!! so now i have a brand new ps3(with resistance, which is awsome btw!) and a brand new car!!! i went from having nothing, to feeling like i have everything, all in one day! iue wanted a ps3 since launch and im loving every second of it :) Furbyballistik
