Hi! I dont really know much about TV's but as im getting ps3 soon and planing on replacing my old TV I need some info..

So I will be spending lots of time playing and wathcing movies on my TV using ps3, thats why I wanned to ask people that know stuff about TV's about what should I get and what specific information I should know before buying it.

I had in mind something around 1000$, is it enough for 1080p TV which I hear ps3 is good with :) (I dont really know what 1080 means in details lol)

this one looked good for me, its 37inch. http://www.vergelijk.be/tv_lcd_plasma/samsung/le_37_s_81/

Please if you know stuff about TV's give some info on important stuff!

Thanks in advance.

I just bought a 32" sharp 1080P, it has 10,000:1 contrast ratio 3 hdmi outputs and 1 dvi output. The original price was $1300 bucks, I got it for $899 bucks. It was a open box, it was supposed to be a display model. but they didn't put it out cuz it had a couple small scratches on top. Go to bestbuy.com search for sharp 32" 1080p

Anyone knows some EU stores I can buy good and cheap TV, cause all the good stores are in US :) like K-mart.bestbuy...

Buying in normal shops here is just overpaying.

can anyone explain what 1080 means?

1080 = HD? or HD ready or full hd?

or how else you know the TV has 1080?

Also contrast ratio. the more the better? like 5000:1 is better than 3000:1?

and what outputs are a must have?

1080 is the resolution

1080i is interlaced, 1080p is progressive

1080 is considered FULL HD, or i think sony called it the ONLY TRUE HD so 1080 res> 720 res

BUT for games P>I so even though 1080i is better resolution, 720p is a better picture for gaming( but 1080p OWNS them both)

1080 TVs are considerably more expensive than their 720 counterparts, for example that 42" insignia at 1080p is 1099, while 8 inches bigger 720p is the same price

Like I said 1080p is the best, period. However not too many things brodcast at 1080p yet. Most video games arn't 1080p, only a couple (CoD4, NBA 08 and a few others?) and HDtelevision through your satellite or cable box is 1080i. All Blu Ray movies are 1080p and those are AMAZING, so for now, thats where you get the most use out of 1080p

as for contrast rations, the bigger the better i think, shows more difference in colors, better colors

If you're getting a TV less than 50", you really can't tell the difference between 720p and 1080p. I'd say go for a 720p display and get the largest one you can afford. In fact, my buddy spent $800 on a 720p projector that shoots an 80" image on the wall (it could be bigger, but space is an issue). All in all, if you have the space for a projector, you can't find a better deal in terms of screen size per dollar.

It has to do with the resolution of the tv I think, thegeneral has it all pretty much there for you. $1000 won't get you enough in my opinion, I think $2000 is the way to go, but if you're pressed for money....I have a 42 inch LCD aquos, the later model (72U). In Canada, I've seen it go as low as $1800 before tax on sale. The tvs advertised at around $1000 that say they have 1080p are not worth it - they have response times often like 8ms, you'd be lucky to get 6ms. I have 4ms with mine and there is a difference. Plus you need to look at the contrast ratios they advertise. For an avid gamer, you need a good tv for the new gen systems. Don't chince on the tv, you will regret it :P

1080p is what you will get on Blu-Ray movies and some newer games. 1080i is what HD channels are broadcast in, they can't be 1080p because the bandwith would be too large. General rule is typically if your buying 42 inches or smaller, 720p is good, if you go bigger, you'll want 1080p. Also, distance from TV makes a difference. If you don't care about the tv size, get the biggest 1080p you can get for the money you want to spend. If you want the largest TV you can buy for that money, get the largest you can find.

No because no one will have 720 within the end of this next year. The'll be like cavemen. And 1080p not iiiiii Is the same difference from 480 to 720 almost. So if you notice a change from 480 to 720. Thats as much of a change as their is to 720 to 1080, "I know not in math terms" but in charts yea! And that 10,000 to 1 stuff is just as important. You can get some junk 1080p TVs.
