Buy any cheap cable you can buy. A $5 HDMI cable will work just as good as a $100 cable. You do not need seperate audio cables since HDMI channels video and audio in the same cable.

Yes it is necessary.

I started out with composite cables before my HDMI cable arrived and you can see a world of difference (plus it displays the games in widescreen format to fit my TV).

Edited to add: I got mine from Amazon like the other gentleman in this thread and paid less than $10. You shouldnt need any additional cables, HDMI or otherwise, for audio unless you are running a component system and want surround sound or something.

Well, you can live without it, I've got my ps3 in a 42inch and was like "well its not that bad" then i noguht a hdmi cable from amazon, and was like "wow". I got a " 24k gold plated, 99.999%oxygen free, silver soldered" hdmi cable. Personaly i think it probly is a scam, but hell it was only £12 so why not. It was 2.4meters aswell which was like the perfect length I wanted.

HDMI gets rid off any blurring and distortions from the connections. You'll only require more HDMI cabeling if your running a didital sound system though your ps3 or something... as i understand it from the manual anyway.

If you dont wanna wait you'l pay for it, cheapest I saw at BB was about 50 bucks, up to you if you have the money but they'll look the same as my .99 cent ones.

I brought a $30 hdmi for my ps3 and a $5 (after shipping)one from amazon for my cable box. i have hooked up both to my ps3 and noticed aboslutely no differance. i would buy a cheap one from amazon. search for "hdmi 2m (6 feet) super high resolution cable" on amazon and read the reviews. it has 243 reviews and is selling for 2.37.

You have to think about quality too, the sony HDMI $99.99 its worlds apart in quality with the monster cable $149.99 you are paying for the quality here.

If you have a full HDTV you are going to notice the difference,I doubt there is a 99 cents HDMI cable but if there is its probably no better tha just using the AV cables that come with the PS3 already and playing on 420p.

The cable is only necesary if you are using 1080p, I also have a Samsung 23" inch 702p, with HDMI and composite cable, to my eyes is the same (maybe a LITTLE bit (JUST A LITTLE bit more color on HDMI), but today I will have my 40" Samsung with 1080p and will tell you IF I (Notice the I) notice any difference from 720p and 1080p with Heavenly Sword :D

(Im in love with Nariko)

HDMI is also necessary for upscaling DVD movies. It won't work unless its HDMI.

when i first got my ps3 i bought an hdmi cord to hook it up. The problem i had then is that i couldn't hook it up to my surround sound because my reciever didn't have an hdmi connection. Now i use component cables to hook up to the tv and optical for my receiver...is there a way you can run the ps3 to the tv with an hdmi cable and still hook up to a receiver with no hdmi plug or does hooking the ps3 up to an hdmi eliminate all other outputs for audio since hdmi does audio and visual???

HDMI is the best. If you have an HD TV with HDMI inputs, there's NO reasons to go below.

On Ebay or Amazon, you can get something good below 10$. If you don't have a credit cards, Walmart has 30$ good quality HDMI cables. 0 and 1 are 0 and 1. It is impossible to get 0.9 or 0.5 with low quality cables. The quality is the same for any prices, the difference can be in the durability, but a cable is meant to stay plugged, not to trail behing a pick-up offroad.

That's an ignorant statement. Unless you're doing a long run (+20 ft), you will not see a difference in picture between a $150 Monster cable and the $6 cable from monoprice/amazon/newegg. HDMI is digital, and therefore either on or off, there is no picture quality difference because the cable is cheaper. What you're paying for with a Monster cable is for a name, the marketing, and the packaging. Do a little research next time before making such statements. Go ask anyone on the big videophile sites, they'll tell you for a 3'/6'/10' cable that you'd be crazy to pay the extra $100, and these are people that buy $10k projectors and $5k screens to aim them at.
