:o MGS4 if you are a fan of the series, Valkyria Chronicles if you can find it and love games with great stories unique mixtures of gameplay between SRPGs and JRPGs, Uncharted Drakes Fortune for a 3rd person action adventure that feels alot like playing an Indiana Jones movie (my personal fav), Ratchet and Clank Future (sequel coming soon and it is only 15 dollars at target right now) and Infamous, a sandbox super hero game that is quite amazing made by the makers of Sly Cooper ^.^ Also try out the Game Recommendation stickyGoing to get a PS3 and I want to get 2 or 3 PS3 exclusive that are great and i can put some time in.

But not everyone likes the game. It is a niche title. Popular but niche. Many play it for the story and if he has not played 1-3 he will not be connected to the characters at all. The gameplay is nice but many will not like how the game paces and it SERIOUSLY is not for everyoneMGS4,MGS4, MGS4 MGS4, MGS4, MGS4, THEY JUST DROPPED THE PRICE TO $30

well MGS4 was actually going to be one of my choices because it has the mix of shooter stealth and action, I heard its hard to catch up with the story if you have not played the others but i'll probably get the drift.

U CAN READ THE STORY ONLINE SOMEWHERE IM SURE OF IT, HONESTLY I KNOW THE GRAPHICS OF PS1 GAMES ARE 2 GENERATIONS OLD, BUT YOU SHOULD D/L MGS1 FROM THE PSN, ITS ONLY 10 BUCKS, AND IS DEF WORTH IT

Reading the story for many is not enough and i would agree that downloading MGS first is his best bet ^.^ hopefully he will enjoy the game.MGS doesn't appeal to some gamers, and for those that haven't played the previous MGS titles aren't going to have a CLUE as to what's happening. I hate to even utter it, but if you haven't played the previous MGS titles then I don't recommend Guns of The Patriots because there are FAR too many story arcs and plot twists. I've played, and beaten Valkyria Chronicles and while it's a good game it's not for everyone. It's a simulation RPG, and for most the lack of freedom henders many players from playing the game. The only element of gameplay is on the battlefield and at Headquarters where you upgrade weapons, armor, etc. I STRONGLY recommend renting it before purchasing it.
MGS 4 is only 30 bucks now so it's a good starter for someone who just spent 400$ on a ps3. If you like fps games than Killzone 2 is a must have.
In terms of platforming, multi-player, and sheer fun I HIGHLY recommend Little Big Planet. You can't help but feel nostalgic playing this game. It reminds you of playing the old-school platformers like Mario. Plus user generated content, online multiplayer, and downloadable content it's a must have for ANY PS3 owner. I just picked up inFAMOUS today and I've only put a little under 2 hours into it, but I've enjoyed it thusfar. Uncharted, despite it's longevity it's still a damn good game, and one hell of a tomb-raiding experience. Although the last few chapters of the game surprised the hell out of me. The game is chalk full of extra content too which adds to replayability. Most people shun Heavenly Sword however I recommend it ATLEAST as a rental because while it's not Goddess of War it's still a damn good game and has a great story. It's a short-lived game, and there's not very much content, but all-in-all a worthwhile play if for nothing more than a rental.
There are not many PS3 exclusive titles left to begin with. Previous posts name pretty much all of them. MGS4 is by far the best IMO, but it is true that you have to be well indulged in the history of MGS to understand and appreciate this title.
One of the reasons I bought a PS3 is the coming God of War 3, but that is some 9 months away from now. Surely, the game will be a blast, though. God of War is one of the best exclusive titles for PS.
Someone mentioned Bioshock, but it is not exclusive and the game is far worse than the press made it look IMO. It is not a bad game, mind you, but it is not the titan everyone was babbling about. If you are not addicted to trophies, play Bioshock with a mouse and a keyboard on PC!

Oh please! Enough of the horror! (caps lock...)I love fps so my best will have to be Killzone2. It has the best graphics i ever saw in a game...playing it on Elite is REALLY hard...Online is very instense...a must get game for fps players or those who are becoming fps players :P
A game that hasn't been nentioned is Socom. Socom Confrontation is a on-line only game with no story line, but it wasn't developed by the original Socom developer. I understand that there is another Socom game in the works from the original developer that will be going back to off-line and on-line game play.
The series even has the PSP versions that aren't just copies of the PS3 games (different story lines with two of these games off-line story mood tiying with the last twoPS2 versions of the series).
