I played CoD4, it's awesome, but the most fun I've had with a war game is with Soldier of Fortune 2, doing The Shop during the beta...
The pace in SoF2 was quicker than CoD4 while still allowing for lots of tactical moves because the maps were so well designed... You could choke points and pin people down with a good teammate, and cancel out the "runs with guns blazing" players with minimal skill easily. But battles with experienced players could last long minutes running from cover to cover dodging grenades, sniper shots and staying out of friendly fire all in a fraction of a second. I know we still have all that in CoD, but it seems like I'm lugging around my grandma on my back compared to SoF2 furiously frantic speed...
I love CoD4, no need to throw a bucket at me, but I like SoF2's gameplay better. CoD4's graphics are outstanding. The Single Player is now what every modern day military game must aim to beat. But as far as multiplayer online goes, I got other favorites. Not even in my top 3. But hey it's just me... not saying you guys are wrong or anything, as long as we all play a game we like aren't we all happy hehehe.
