Stick it inside the refrigerator while you play, that way it'll stay cool and the munchies are but mere steps away. ;) j/k But srsly, I think your best bet is to buy a cooling fan. I think a new one is supposed to come out this month that is especially made for the Slim PS3 model. Check it out at Gamestop.com.

PS3 slims get amazingly hot no matter where you put them, Try to keep it out in the open off carpet. You should be good.

IfI were you I would keep a fan on it too. Not a cooling fan but like a box fan or something. And a cooling fan too.

I put my console ontop of two empty PSP game cases to keep that 1" air gap under it, and then the unit is vented to the open air as much as physically possible and out of the cabinets etc that people like to stick them in to make them disappear. You could get a USB-powered laptop fan to set it on, that works great for drawing air from the underside... don't bother playing around with fance PS3 "Intercoolers" - feh. Sweet Marketing Name, Ad Exec-Guy!!!

If you really feel the need, get a $5 mini fan from WalMart... but please, don't believe the hype. PS3s can get warm, they've left one running for a week in testing, trust me. Trolls would have you believe there's some sort of dire need to accentuate your PS3 with all sorts of extra BS, but if it was made properly on the assembly line and you keep it properly ventilated to regular room air and it's not compounded by other electronics surrounding it generating heat, then you should be fine with the unit as-is.

I'm not sure where the PS3 slim gets hot but on my PS2 slim it got hot on the top. So what I did was put a gel ice pack on it. You know, the one you put in your frezer and take out to put on an injury. Looks a bit like this: http://www.bridgat.com/files/gel_pack.jpg

I thought the slims were suppose to run cooler. I have my 60 gig sitting on top of my entertainment center and standing vertical, it's running 24/7 and never has overheated in over three years of use. I did replace the thermal paste and completely cleaned the system a few weeks ago just as a precaution (wasn't really heating up or having any other issues when I serviced the system).

I have mine on a glass shelf and in an open area no heat problems. It seems that the glass shelf helps spread the heat .

Get a fan from an old pc, place it at the output vent of the ps3, arrange it so it blow the same way as the ps3's fan and assists in sucking air

YLOD is going to happen soon !!!!! You must strip the ps3 and hoover all the dust out from around the cpu, rsx, cell gba's chips, AND renew the thermal paste which has dried out, this helps cool the chips down. In my view sony used cheap paste and this is drying out on many machines so sony makes more $$$$$$, I have not heard them mention the paste once, crooks:( Spread the word.

My PS3 has not even come close to overheating yet. As for cooling, there's not much I can offer that hasn't been said. All I can add is make sure the room is well ventilated as well because if you're PS3 is sucking in nothing but hot air, its own ventilation won't do much good.

No way you can keep it cool during the summer time, unless you have the airconditioner....

I have my PS3 in a large, well-ventilated, well insulated room. As long as I don't keep it in a corner, it stays cool.

Best way to keep it cool and extent the life of your PS3? Connect it to a power bar and turn the power bar off when your not playing. I noticed that the PS3 stays warm while on stand-by so I started to do this.

Good point. Forgot about that because more often than not I CBF to unplug my PS3 after every use. And I just thought of another thing. Try not to play during the early afternoon period. That's when it gets the hottest I find.
