As long as the settings are correct just about all the routers are equal. I have a older D-Link 624 Xtreme G (it's about 5 or 6 years old now and still works like a charm). The main thing is that the modem that the IP uses is set correctly and then set the router up correctly.

my Netgear works great and I've never had a problem with it, plus the program used for programming the router is one of the easiest I have ever used. I have a WGR614

I also use a D-Link router (WBR-2310) couple years old and it works perfectly with my PS3 which is only less than a month old.

Oh consumer routers, how I lol at them. But if you are a feeble consumer, Linksys routers aren't that special besides the wrt54gl because you can flash it with custom firmwares for great perf and utilities. I also like the consumer d gl 4300 from D link Or if you want to be a true warrior like me who is CCNA cert Get spare pc with 2 nics + pfsense(router OS) + wireless card = awesome performance.

I have the same router as you! @ TC, it really doesn't matter because any router should be fine. But you should take into account the distance between your router and PS3 and stuff like that. I have an "old" Netgear router that works fine.

so far i have used linksys, us robotics and ****** adsl modems / routers, where i used to assign a specific ip to my ps3, configuring the router and ps3 accordingly in dmz... after i switched to cable i started using the apple airport express (yes, the small tiny one, which i had only used for its music playing capability over itunes and airfoil) and i did not make any special configuration on it, i set up everything in automatic mode (easy mode for ps3)... everything works fine, no problems whatsoever...

Linksys is awesome in general... But I cannot get my PS3 to connect to my router at a satisfactory bandwidth. It took me 10 minutes to download a 24mb patch today and it can take upwards of 8 hours to download certain demos. I've repeatedly messed with settings on both my router and my PS3 and haven't had ANYTHING work. The weird thing was I was able to get it work once after repeatedly resetting things... It just decided to start working. And then I had to change something, and since then the same exact settings simply will not yield speeds anywhere close to desirable. As far as I'm concerned Sony has been extremely poor in maximizing the wireless card's compatibility.

Look for Linksys WRT54G DD-WRT flashable models. These are able to be flashed with custom firmware (for compatibility not for illegal things). They have some kind of Linux capability and I am just learning about this myself but DD-WRT.COM has a list and more information. You can find them on eBay and some are out there at Wal Mart, Best Buy still (just make sure you have a list of the versions when you go to buy one).

Enter WRT54G where it says Please enter at least 3 character of the router's name, manufacturer and/or revision.(or any router but that's the most compatible).

I have a Netgear N+ router and it works pretty good. Ive tried others like D-link (connection wasn't very good)and lynksis(dropped signal once in a while). I cant justify netgear as being the best, it had just been my experience.

I use a Netgear WR*** the same one that was mentioned earlier. Decent performance only few problems here and there but all around good. Buttt its not ment for heavy traffic I got; 2 360's, 2 PS3's, 2 Wii's, and 3 PC's. All except the 360's are wireless.

I've got to tell you, not all routers are highly compatible with all gaming systems. I don't actually own a PS3 but my Xbox connection has a moderate NAT type coz of my router and also my DS won't accept my WEP key coz of the Router. You might want to do your homework before getting one to make sure it will be compatible with every gaming system you have or intend to get. If you have any nintendo systems, there is a very good list of routers at www.nintendowifi.com that says how compatible each are with nintendo systems. If Xbox and Nintendo have compatability issues with some routers, I'm sure Playstation has compatibility issues as well.

Frustrated and need some help. We bought our son a PS3 and in his bedroom he is unable to play online. I have a 2 gate ATT wireless router and have contacted ATT, they say PS3 issue. Called PS and I am doing everything correctly. Exchanged PS3 for new and same issue. Is it my router, how do I know? He really wants to be able to play his friends online. The reason why he wanted that system.. HELP please or maybe I need to purchase a new brand router!! :-(

I know that since you're posting asking about routers it must be obvious that you have to go with the wireless option. But if it IS-AT-ALL possible to get a wired connection, then do it.. wireless just can't compare.. I went through the process of buying new and better wireless routers, but nothing will give you that 100% connectivity (there is an option on the PS that shows you this and the best I got was like 70% (but my friend got 85% using the same 1) which is double the ping of my now wired connection). Ok ignore my response as well just realised this is an old post lol

Ok this might be obvious, but you have gone through the process of going through network settings and searching for the wireless router to connect to, right? Does it find the router when you search for it?

I'm also looking for a wireless router. I can connect to the Internet through my Ethernet cable, but in order to do that, I have to move my desk and unplug the Internet cable from my computer. So, the distance between my router and PS3 console will basically be non-existent. I'm willing to spend maximum 50-60$. Any ideas ? I've heard good things about D-Link DIR-600.

Here in the UK, I bought a brand new PS Vita (18th December 2012). I use a NETGEAR DG834G router through which I have never ever had a problem with my iMac, 2 laptops, an iPhone and an XBox. However, connecting online with my PS Vita has given me nothing but grief this past week to the point where I'm considering returning the console to the store.

When I check my net connection in the Vita's settings menu, it says I'm connected to both the internet and the Playstation Network with no problems, with NAT type 2. However, it won't let me connect when I try to start up the "Party" app on the console with a waiting message for ages followed by a "your connection has been terminated" message. Playing Call of Duty: declassified is also a waste of time when trying to join an online multiplayer game because it won't let me join, this time with the error message "NW-2510-8" and botting me back to the game's main menu. Yet, it will let me play online in my other 2 currently owned games - "Madden 13" & "Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale".

I posted on the PS (european) forums about this but no-one has been able to answer the problem although a couple of others stated they have the same issues. I then did a google search as it turns out this issue has been going on ever since the console was released about a year ago now. NETGEAR routers very often seem to be what troubled Vita owners are using.

So, as a very last resort, I'm trying to find out if other router manufacturers might actually let the Vita work OK. Problem is that I'd have to be VERY sure first, before spending money on a new router as I obviously would not want to do this if I'm not sure it would fix things. My only other option as I said above will be to return it to the store which would be a real shame.
