250 GB is the largest 2.5"...

160Gig is the best bang for the buck...

A regular hardrive in a hardrive enclosure is the best deal... Mind you, it transfers data slower.

A 160 should suit your needs just fine. Not too mention you can get one from Newegg.com for about $120 bucks. That's what I'll be doing pretty soon.

This is probably the biggest one you can put inside the PS3.

Of course if you want something REALLY big, this external drive is about as big as you'll ever need.

That's what she said.

Make sure it's Serial ATA (SATA) and try to get one that's only 5400RPM... 7200 RPM will do barely anything and will cost a substantial amount more... and... umm... 8 mb cache or more.

Lastly, Seagate and Western Digital are the most reliable HDD companies.

I'm a PC fanatic, so I thought I should tell yea.

I've heard ppl say that it's hard to unscrew the area to upgrade their ps3's... some ppl have messed up the screws trying. Almost makes me want to just go with a usb hard drive (which u can get a 500GB for nearly the same price as a 160GB internal one).

Has anyone had similar problems upgrading their internal hard drive?

Seagate or Western Digital may have not released a 250 GB yet, I was just saying that it is the biggest. Just these 2 companies are the most reliable in terms of life-span. Additionally, the reason why people say 160 Gigs is because anything higher is rare to find.

No, there are 250 Gigs... I've seen one... I just can't remember where. They're as rare as Terabyte 3.5" hardrive. It may be a server hardrive- which would be my bad.

Possibly. I've never come across one.

I did see a stackable 4 terabyte enclosure with 4 3.5 terabye drives for 500 bucks...I forget where though.  USB 2.0 on top of it.  A tv series pirate's dream. lol

Best thing to do IMO (this is what I did) go out buy a 3.5" 500GB SATA (or whatever size you want) drive for ~$120 add a external SATA enclosure that has an eSATA port ~$30 then get a eSATA to iSATA adaptor ~$5 and plug the 500gb HDD into the internal SATA port of your PS3. This way you can install linux all your PS store downloads etc. on a HDD thats half a terabyte for less than the price of a 200GB 2.5" drive which is only 5400rpm and probably has a smaller cache. I mean yeah your HDD is external but if you buy yourself a black Coolermaster X-craft enclosure it really fits in with the look of you PS3 and looks sweet.

I wouldn't bother looking for 200-250gb laptop drives as the tradeoff is the lower 4200rpm speed. Just stick with a 160gb that's atleast 5400rpm, don't bother with 7200rpm.

If you use an external drive through USB, I don't think the extra space you'd get from that would be usefull since the games will only install on the main drive, downloadable games and such.

However you can use a external drive with ESATA port and make it internalÂ
