Nobody answered on the AV Hardware forum so I figured someone here might know.

Ok, I bought a PS2 along with MGS3 Sub. Problem is when I try to play it the graphics are so blurry I can barely make anything out at all. Now I know PS2's don't have the best graphics but I do know that back in the day when I used to play it all the time I could at least make out all the graphics and tell what they are. I have tried it on every TV in my house and its the same, problem is we don't have any Standard Def. TVs anymore so I cant test it on there, so I have no idea if its because the PS2 doesn't work out well on a HDTV or what. Maybe I could somehow hook it up tomy computer monitor but I doubt it, plus its also a LCD HD monitor so it would probably be the same.

Does anyone know whats going on here?

Anything, not just the PS2, that only has a SD native signal is going to look horrible on any HDTV regardless of what it is. You could try to hook up your PS2 with component cables, it'll improve the picture slightly but unfortunately it won't look as good if it was on a SDTV.

Uggh , Same happened to me today when I decided to play some PS2 on my TV =S

Well , They say hooking up a component cable and Holding "X" and "Triangle" While the Playstation 2 logo is on makes it a bit better (480p Isnt that much better TBH though =P )

Wish there was another way to make it look better , Since I have an NTSC-J PS3 and cant play My NTSC-UC games on it =/ .

Yea, playing a ps2 on a hd tv will make it look bad. Its best to be playing on a sd tv.

Did you turn on the PS2 smoothing and upscaling on your PS3?

He doesn't have a ps3

He misread it, no need to be a jerk. It also would be assumed that people would be discussing the PS3 on the "PlayStation 3" forums.

Wasn't in no way trying to be a jerk. He should just had read the original post more carefully instead of assuming.

I've got my PS2 hooked up to a 32" Sharp HDTV using the component video cables. It looks fantastic - the picture is much sharper with a lot more detail, and the colors are much more vivid. Don't have any problems with blurriness or anything like that. Just put in Metal Gear Solid 3 Snake Eater and it looks just fine. I really don't know why people have problems with PS2's and HDTV's. I mean, it sure isn't going to look like a PS3 game, but it looks a lot better than a PS2 on an SDTV. You're still going to get a lot of jaggies, but those were just as bad with standard def sets. You maybe didn't notice them as much because the lower resolution just made the edges look blurry instead of jagged.
