Black & White

Does anyone else have a problem with their PS3 sometimes showing in black & white?

Sometimes i start it up from standby mode and it's in colour on the XMB but then i go into a game and the game is in black and white. Sometimes it's vice versa.. i'm playing a game in colour then i quit the game and the XMB is in black & white.

I'm using PS2 component cables because i had them from when i had my PS2 and the PS3 has the same connector so i thot they would work. Would they have anything to do with the problem?

I've never heard of losing colors in a game, but the background of the PS3 changes with the day. So when you are playing at night, the background will be black & white & when you play during the day, it will have color.

But if it's doing it in games as well, then you'd better get some new cables for your PS3. THey're fairly cheap.

well if you have a SDTV like me then when a game or a movie is NTSC its black and white and if its pal its with colorcostyssj4

Yea i know the XMB changes colour based on time of day but it's different because all the thumbnail images of my music albums on my PS3 are in black & white also as is the image of the normally yellow game disk. Thanks for the answer tho maybe i will buy the Sony PS3 component cables just to be sure.Fan_of_Gaming

Yeah, definitely get the new component cables then. I suppose your PS3 could be crapping out on you, but I've never heard of this before so I think a new set of cables will square you away. Good luck!

never heard of envision... maybe that is the problem.

I bought the TV from Futureshop.. i hadn't heard of the company either and i asked the guy there and he said they were a company based in Quebec (i live in Canada) and he said that they had never had problems with them and they were cheaper than the other ones so i got it. My PS2 never had any problems so i'm not sure. I'll just buy the component cables for the PS3 and go from there

that happened to my ps3 too

it plays all in black and white, games and the XMB

right before it boots up the TV screen goes all weird and then it goes into the XMB and everythings in black and white.

right before it happened i turned off my PS3 with the switch at the back straight from when it was still on.

does anybody have any advice?

do i have to repair my PS3?
