Okay here's my problem: My PS3 worked fine for over a year. This week I turned it on and there was nothing on the screen (blank black screen). There is no video output or sound output. Nothing has changed with the connection and the PS3 was never disconnected from the TV. It is sending a signal to the TV b/c the TV recognizes that there is an input. It is connected to my TV via HDMIi. (TV is a Samsung 720p Plasma) I know that both the input and HDMI cable work fine because I tested them with my dish receiver. I've tried to hook the PS3 up using the RCA a/v cables and I get the same result. I've tried resetting the video ouput (holding down the power button through the beeps, and when I do this a couple of white lines will flash on the screen). I am able to access "Safe Mode" and have tried all of the options to reset the PS3. None of them have made any difference. Does anyone have any idea what the problem could be? I've tried everything I could think of and haven't found any help online. Could it be a bad graphics card? I don't think this would be the issue b/c I'm able to access the "Safe Mode", so there is some type of output coming from the PS3. Any assistance would be GREATLY appreciated. I'm at a loss at this point, and really don't want to pay Sony another $150.

Sounds very strange, I guess the first thing you need to do is see if it is your PS3 or your TV. Have you tried plugging it into a different TV?

I did try to plug it into a standard tv using the RCA cables. Same thing happens. No display. Thoughts?

Press and hold the power button until it makes 3 beeps. It will reset the resolution if that is the problem.

It makes the three beeps, but there is nothing on the screen. I can't see any type of menu and there is no sound coming out.

then most likely your PS3 is defective. first do a google search. then call sony. and try another HDMI cable or port. or try the composite cables.

I finally got it working. Here's what I did... -Access Safe Mode -Choose Option 5: Restore PS3 System -Leave the PS3 alone (I left it alone for over 24 hours) This process reset the PS3. It did delete my stored info, but there wasn't anything on the PS3 that I needed to keep anyway. Hope this helps anyone that has this problem in the future.

Wow, you probably deleted your data for nothing. During that 24 hour period, did you ever turn your TV off? If you did, thats what fixed it. My Tv did the VERY SAME thing. I thought my PS3 was defective, but my Tv sometimes does what yours did. Just turn it off for a few minutes and turn it back on. It may work right away, or it may not, but turning it off does solve that problem. People should think of other options other than your PS3 being defective. How about, your TV is being defective?

The problem was an error with the video output on the PS3, not an issue with the tv. I reset the output settings multiple times, and had hooked the ps3 up to other tv's using both hdmi and component cables.
