i want to get a blu ray DVD player. I have an HD TV, 1080i, the only problem is that it doesnt have an HDMI input, my question is: will i still get an good picture without the HDMI?

component cable is good too (red/green/blue for video, red and white for audio), DVDs will only be in 480i though

you're talking about my old DVDs right? those will only be in 480i? and the blu ray disks should be in 1080 correct?

yes, the DVDs can only be 480i with component, the Blu-ray will be 1080i or 720p if you want, HDMI (I'm not a tech) will only allow a faster rate of transfer for images, but hardly noticeable most of the time

you are a little wrong. using component dvd movies can play at 480p (witch looks better then 480i). Blu-ray movies will play at 1080i. hdmi has nothing to do with faster transfer rates (more of more bandwdth (data) yeah faster too). HDMI is a full digital cable. it allows for full 8 channel HD-Sound, and HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection) something analog component cables cant do.Component can pass a full 1080p signal butnot incopy portected movies, just moves down to 1080i
