hey everybody, i was looking into getting a racing game for my ps3. im looking at either blur or split second... they both look really good and both seem to have that fun arcadish style of gameplay. i was wondering if someone can give me their opinion of which one is better and why? (please dont mention to me any other racing game like modnation)

Both got high marks from "Gametrailers.com" and G4 although they did say the shine wears off of both... and I heard a poster say the other day that the "Blur" servers have connection problems and have been problematic. I don't have a link as it was in an unrelated topic and I can't for the life of me remember the actual subject to go back and find it...

... I've got a mind like a siv...

... frankly they both look fun to me. There's a demo for "Split" on the PSN, it's alright. Start there!

I believe that Blur is a Mario Kart type game mean you use weapons to attack other racers as the attack you. In Split Second you actually trigger the environment to decay which changes the route of the track.

I own Blur and I've only played the Split Second demo, so my opinion is not that fair, but I think Blur is better. Especially the 20-player races are much more fun than 8-player races. There's alot more action in Blur, and I think Split Second gets repetitive after some hours, because you know all the objects that could explode. I also like the challenges in Blur :D

I'd rather compare Blur to Wipeout HD considering the weapon types, only using cars instead of hover sleds. Both are great games, as mentioned above. Myself, I prefer the idea of triggering stuff on the track over picking up the weaponry. Slight edge to Split/Second.

Now, both Blur and S/S:V are good, my friend owns the latter. I just brought Blur yesterday and to be true it's not too difficult nor is it too easy and the powerups are absolutely not like MarioKart.Blur is somewhat like a racing FPS. S/S is more like a unrealistic street racing simulation where you can blow up a little bit of things.

I own both, alternating between them! Ican say that Split Second is better because it offers a racing experience. Drifting, making tight corners etc. Essentially this should be the most important aspect in both games. Blur is fun too though, in it's own Wipeouty way, but the racing itself is not as important as the power ups and being accurate with them in some challenges. I will be keeping both, but if i could keep one that would be Split Second.

Ive plat Split / Second and working on Blur.

Split / Second is amazing. It never gets old. I put many hours into it and it was a blast all the way to the end. The online is unforgiving if you mess up, but its nice to blow something up and take out another driver. You have some neat modes you don't seei n other games like having to pass trucks dropping exploding gas canisters (survival) and 2 modes involving attack helicopters firing missles at you and you have to dodge them and even reflect them back to take out the helicopter. You have a mode where everything around you will explode in a preset race and you have to beat the times sorta like a time trial but you got to dodge stuff going off everywhere.

Blur has some nice ideas and although it claims to be like a kart racer its really nothing like one. Its a racing game with weapons. Its been done before. Overall its a great racing game it never feels bad or gets slow. You will have fired every weapons in the game by the first or second race. you don't have a ton of options with taking out opponents. I like how the story advances by you doing certain objectives like taking out a certain amount of opponents or doing some certain style of driving to get to the "boss." Has a good bit of bosses too. I have not gone online, but i could imagine its just as chaotic as split / second would be.

Overall i would go with Split / Second. Its a wonderful new game that looks and feels great. Blur is close behind but not quite as good.

Well, if you have a KMART in your area BLUR can be had for $19.99 ($39.99-$20 coupon). Best Buy had it on sale as well, and has their own $10 Rewardzone/Gamers Club coupon, so THEORETICALLY you can get Blur for $9.99 from Best Buy if you apply both coupons. But my Best Buy wouldn't take the $20 coupon because game was already on sale. So I had to get it from KMART and for $19.99 (no coupon problem at KMART whatsoever).

Coupon for $20 off blur: http://www.blurgamepromotion.com/

Blur is a nice solid game. Split/Second also seemed pretty solid from the demo. But neither is the kind of game I'd pay full price for. I say go with Blur as long as you can get this deal for $19.99 or less. If Split/Second were $19.99 then I'd be jumping on getting that as well, but I don't think it's been close to that cheap yet. So go with Blur.

Blur. up to 20 people online and 4 player split screen, compared to split/seconds 8 player limit online and 2 player split screen. Also I like how you have a rear view mirror, it's way more convinient than having to press a button to see behind you. Also because of the nature of power ups Blur is always intense, if your dead last you can easily go to first. In S/S if your dead last then your going to stay there most of the time unless someone in front of you messes up. The power plays only activate at certain points and they only affect people you actually see on the screen (except course changes).

You can't really compare these games as both are different but I enjoyed Split/Second for it's single player the story mode was good and just blowing up parts of the environment was fun. The online I though was quite boring.

Blur I love the online on that game 20 players online is great fun and it can be challenging especially when your getting attacked by weapons but still it always makes me laugh. Motor Mash which is just Destruction Derby with weapons is easily my favourite mode on Blur. I think the single player mode on Blur is quite boring you will end up having most fun online.

Both games are equally good Split/Second is addictive and so is Blur but if you do like playing online a lot then I'm pretty sure you will get a lot out of Blur I just hope more people will play it online. Activision and Bizarre Creations really need to make a demo on the PS3 as it would quite possibly increase sales.

I own neither game, but i played the demos for each. Blur imo is like mario kart with real cars. SS just didn't do anything for me.
