I don't know if this is the proper place for this but I need to vent. On Monday my PS3 stopped reading blu-ray movies and games. It only plays PS2 games and that sucks. It is also past the warranty so I'm stuck with the bill.
After some studying I have concluded that the blu-ray lens/laser is fried. I opened my PS3 up myself and found it to very easy to work on. I have ordered the replacement part for it and should have it some time next week. I was shocked on how simple the blu-ray drive is to open by itself and how easy it is to get the defective part out which is part number KES-400A if anyone cares. I took the drive apart, cleaned it and reassembled the piece. To make sure I didn't kill my drive, I played Burnout for about 10 minutes before it locked up and gave the infamous error code, which I don't recall what the numbers are off the top of my head. Afterwards I slipped a PS2 game in played for hours. Doing it myself if successful will save me at least $100. KES-400A runs for about $40 plus $10 shipping.
Hopefully I will have my PS3 up and playing PS3 games by next week. Wish me luck.
