Day in and day out I am starting to get the impression that bluray is starting to fall behind the eight ball and lose this format war. I know they still have huge companies on their side like Disney etc but for how long? Now HD-DVD is going to surpassbluray in size. THey are making a 51GB disc. Also, we all know a couple weeks ago they lost a big company in Dreamworks and Paramount. Last but not least China has now chosen HD-DVD as their high def platform. This is really starting to upset me. Sony always waits around instead of finishing the competition off when they had the chance.

blu-ray is still blowing hd-dvd out of the water, and blu ray is planning some new 200 gb disc or something from what ive heard, its all about punches and counter punchs in things like this.

I was really surprised that Paramount and Dreamworks jumped ship. I thought the war was over. So far I'm pretty dissapointed in the gaming aspect of the disc size. Whether people want to argue semantics or not, BD- Roms have added nothing substantial as of yet.

Blu-Ray is not losing you know Blu-Ray are working on a 200GB disc right and they have all the major film companies behind them not to mention Blockbuster, and the PS3 don't worry about it the battle is already won.

I never understood that China thing, aren't they just making their own format that's compatible with HD-DVD? I mean, unless BDs are banned in China now, that doesn't really matter.

wow people NEED to understand two things!

1) It will be at LEAST another year before they even produce these with movies

2) It will take a MAJOR firmware update on all the players, 360 add-on will probably obselete since it already has problem player a good amount of disk.

And the China comment, come-on their communist.... who cares. Plus the piracy of HD-DVD is just ridculous. They will lose SO much money in the Asian market.

there is in japan, and debbie does dallas in America. But in my mind i don't want to see it in hd, a little too much details in my opinion. Honestly the stars aren't to hot with the idea, since imperfection will be more noticable. think about it. Plus it shows what class they have, in reality (yes i watch) it is garbage.

I'm wondering how much of a deal the China thing will be. Considering that a lot of Chinese still use VCD, how many are actually going to adopt HD-DVD???

i'll say it once and i'll say it again - both will lose this format war and will be hammered by terrabyte disc formats -- or one of the 2 will drop the price to around 200$ for a player and win the war.

either way this video gen sucks - the jump in quality is NOWHERE near what VHS - DVD was. for it to be crazy high quality you need the new terra discs and better compression -- then maybe consumers will bite.

are you serious? i don't think it's as simple as 'adopting' a format when you're talking about a communist nation. things don't quite work that way there.

needless to say, the average person in china won't be clammering for an HDDVD/BluRay player anytime soon.

I meant that the effect of this decision on the format war will most likely be negligible.

the thing people don't unerstand is yes they announce the terrabite disc, but they won't be ready for mass production for at least 10 years, way to pricey. makes blu-ray look cheap. Just curious if you say the jump of quality is nowhere near, have you seen a blu-ray movie (casino royal, potc) to me the quality is way better than dvd. It freaking jumps off the screen (some movies are soft). Plus the uncompressed audio, and bitrates can't be touched by hd-dvd, which isn't argued anymore.

Lets get some things straight 1. Movie BD spec is 50gigs, Movie HDDVD spec is 30. This is not chaging no matter how big newer versions of the disks get. This mean you wont be using a 200gig disk on your PS3 anytime soon. 2. The Dream/Para deal is for 18months only, and even with it BD still has the majority of support.

I think your the one that needs to think before they type. china achieved the biggest human rights achievement in the world. 400 Million ppl out of poverty. Not to mention that they are now one of the worlds biggest superpowers. You know they are outbidding you for that oil huh. And their army is growing at alarming rates.

As for the current discussion, both need to make a marketing push before its too late. Scaler technology is now getting the same visual quality from standard dvds. The only thing Blu-ray and HD-DVD will be good for is backup discs. Time is getting short.

ok this thread is getting off topic!

China has had 3 past formats they have adpoted/created that have all failed miserably!

blu-ray has already won in the region of Japa and Australia, and very dominant in Europe, it really only the US needs to decide who is the winner

you will see blu-ray corp buying companies if they need to, Universal will probably go neutral in 2008

even the WB which is neutral sells more blu-rays then they hd-dvd

blu-ray players will be as cheap as hd-dvd soon

all blu-ray is in 1080p some hd-dvd have had issues with clarity and resolution

blu-ray is winning will continue to win and will take over in the enxt year or two!

You took the words right out of my mouth. As far as I am concerned, Blu-ray is the least likely format to be pirated which is a good thing.

i'll say it once and i'll say it again - both will lose this format war and will be hammered by terrabyte disc formats -- or one of the 2 will drop the price to around 200$ for a player and win the war.

either way this video gen sucks - the jump in quality is NOWHERE near what VHS - DVD was. for it to be crazy high quality you need the new terra discs and better compression -- then maybe consumers will bite.

the terrabyte disc would be a Blu-Ray disc....once they get it working that is!

the thing people don't unerstand is yes they announce the terrabite disc, but they won't be ready for mass production for at least 10 years, way to pricey. makes blu-ray look cheap.

I agree once you get your set up going HD looks amazing! First i Feel it's LCD or bust! Plasma is kinda crap! 2nd you need a HDMI cord! if you don't have one then, well yeah! HD would not look so much better then dvd!

plasma is crap? sorry but you have no idea what you are talking about. LCD's are barely catching up with plasmas now, but still cannot produce the PQ of a good plasma. i wish i wouldnt of bought my lcd, and went for a plasma instead.

um no LCD is way better little to no burn in 0 glare from sun light... ok 0.1% glare and yeah plasma just sucks! but hay i will also say it really comes down to personal choice!
