Great news for Sony, but do you think this will cause any change in the sales of ps3s? Ironically, I want the dark knight on blu-ray for Christmas as well.:)

What do you think will come of this?

They are buying Blu-Ray players not PS3's. For the consumer it's much easier to buy a $150 Blu-Ray player instead of a $399 PS3. So how does it help the PS3?

I'm curious, who is selling $150 Blu-Ray players? Black Friday sales don't count. I'd love to know.

Microsoft didn't have a full fledged war with Sony over HD-DVD vs. Blu-Ray. If it did Microsoft would have put HD-DVD into the 360. Microsoft wanted HD-DVD to succeed but if it didnt the so the only company it hurt was Toshiba. If Microsoft really wanted HD-DVD to succeed i guarantee you it would be HD-DVD vs. Blu-Ray still today.

personaly i don't really think much about Blu-Ray, I think its a waste of money to be honest.

because soon I think in 2009 Toshiba is releaing a DVD player with top notch upscaling for large screens which really kills sony and their Blu-Ray stuff.
and it looks like the prices won't be that high.

Haha got the bluray delivered yesterday by amazon, already had the 720p version on my ps3, regardless the movie is wonderful, what I found most amazing was, that the movie managed to be extremely dark and at the same time showed (basically) no blood.

To really see what BD offers watch TDK's IMAX parts. They will blow your socks off how amazing they are. The only bad thing is that the movie switches from IMAX to regular film which is noticable since the screen goes from full widescreen to letterbox. Also Hellboy 2 is one of the best looking BD's as well. Pretty much since Iron Man came out ive only gotten BD's and now they are also finally going on sale for older releases and even new releases are finally below 30.

I just wish the special features on them were alot better. One of TDK special features is called Batman Tech and i remember seeing that months ago on the discovery channel lol so i thought that was a bit lame. If companies start double dipping and releasing special edition blu rays months after initial release then i will be pretty mad.

Well that's still $20 more than you previously said. People wanting blu-ray and wouldn't mind a game system for games like guitar hero will then buy a ps3 meaning more ps3 sales. Plus once Blu-ray becomes the norm people will be more willing to fork out the money for a ps3. Also Blu-ray is owned buy sony, more sales is means more revenues for sony.

$169 is still much cheaper than $399, and Sony doesn't own Blu-ray, the Blu-ray Disk Association does. Sony is a founding member but they don't own it.

okay well those bd players aren't very good ones and they probably don't have many in stock really. the majority of people in the country are paying $200+ for the bd players

A $200 Blu-ray player is still $199 cheaper than a PS3.
