So you are saying if I buy a bluray movie which lists 1080p (all of the do)..I can't play the movie in 720p but 1080i instead? And all 720p sets display 1080i anyways right.

Games can be rendered at different resolution... movies are already made with one resolution.

So, if my TV is a native 720p, can i watch the Blu Ray movies in HD? I beieve it can "accept" the 1080i setting and then downgrade it to 720p, is that right?

I don't know what you guys are saying because I have a 480i SDTV and Bluray movies play just fine on it so it should play at 720p just fine as well.

No no, you can still watch the blu ray on the 480i set, but not in HD. We are asking, since we have 720p sets, if the Blu Rays will be in HD on our HDTVs.

You will only be able to get a 1080i signal to your 720p set.  It's not a huge deal since amny TV shows and sports programming are broadcast in 1080i and the picture is stunning on 720p sets.

Blu-ray movies do 480i, 1080i and 1080p, so your HD ready tv will automatically switch to 1080i for Blu-ray movies.

My TV goes up to 720p and 1080i (but not 1080p) and I just watched Casino Royale (Blu-Ray) on it and WOW... is all I can say. You won't be dissapointed.

Most times tvs are 768p, so actually giving the tv something higher like 1080i to convert down to 768p result in more detail that something lower like 720p upscaled to 768p.

The only annoying thing is if you leave 1080i option on for Blu-ray movies, then 1080i and 1080p games will default to that instead of 720p, which would be a better choice for gaming on a 720-768p type display.

And those that say your goes upto 720p and 1080i, I hope you understand that's supported input and that it is all converted to one single resolution. My tv supports both, but I know both end up 768p when displayed.
