LOL. :P
HD DVD backers like Universal and Toshiba claim this is just a fad for PS3 owners who really haven't claimed a devotion to the Blu-ray format. Universal also fired back by saying that the Blu-ray hardware/software tie ratio is low, considering the volume of PS3 units that have been sold.

It's PS3 and also the pubilshers, HD-DVD is going against major studios support. Well TS for toshiba and universal.
there was an article in the wall street journal a few weeks ago that talked about the blueray v. hd dvd battle.
it said that porn may be a deciding factor.
with the beta v. vhs battle, sony didnt allow porn to be produced on beta. porn was then strictly produced on vhs. obviously vhs won that format war.
unclear whether porn is going for blueray or hd dvd, but i would look to those sales figures as an indicator.

Wow blue-ray sold twice as much then hd-dvd. Blu-Ray for teh win.2beers_in_handCongratulations on your baby girl! and yay for Blu-Ray!
Digital Distribution is by and large the method of choice for obtaining pron today. The battle between HD and BR won't be affected by pron.

Well I think this basically refutes what one of the editors of that tipping point article said about the ps3's blu ray player doing next to nothing in helping to push the blu ray formatonemicthat is hilarious, isn't it? before the PS3 launch, it was like, "the PS3 will not be the trojan horse that the PS2 was with it's DVD player". Now it's like, "here are the blu-ray hardware sales minus the PS3." gotta love the flip-flop.....but hey, the HD-DVD group has to make their sales look better, right?

The problem is that these threads are starting to overtake actual PS3 discussion now that the system is actually out. DVD talk never came up in the PS2 board unless if it was a compatibility issue, and in the end, it's better to talk about these formats in the General Hardware board. The PS3 board should be more focused on the system itself and its games, since this IS a gaming website. ;)
