Hi guys, might be buying a psp in the next week, but im a little unsure about buying one after hearing so many PSPs being 'bricked' while updating firmware. Just wondering how easy is it to brick a psp cos i wouldnt want to pay so much for something then having it screwed over :P
Thanks in advance, M

You will only "brick" your PSP if you turn your PSP off while updating to the latest firmware.

i believe sony is advising end-users to not only have AC power plugged in, but ALSO have your fully-charged battery pack set in the PSP while upgrading firmware.  that way, there's absolutely no reason that power will be an issue when upgrading firmware.

Not another one of these threads...

If you follow the simple directions the update tells you to do, you wont have any problems.

If youre the kind of idiot who is going to play-fight with your friends in the middle of an update or carelessly swing it and drop it, PSP might not be the best thing for you:|

Don't use homebrew, and always charge your PSP while updating firmware and you should be good.

And also (this is how I got mine bricked) don't let ANYONE take out your game while playing. And if they do put it back it and hope your game and PSP still works. Hopefully it wasn't loading when it was taken out. And don't update your firmware if you didn't put your game back in yet. >.>

Homebrew is completely safe if you know how to read. There are a lot of homebrew games/apps that don't even access the PSPs flash, making them 100% safe.

This post is about as ignorant as they come.

You have the SAME amount of change bricking your PSP while using an official Sony update. If you read the instructions, you won't have any problems. The only other concern would be getting your files from a trusted source.

Again, another ignorant reply. This guy is saying that a PSP is actually stupid if it bricks ? Yea, he'd be the one I'd go to for advice.

The thick of it is this;

The PSP is relatively safe to do just about anything you want with it. Read the documentation carefully, and if you still don't understand something, ASK !! Take appropriate precautions before undertaking ANYTHING that deals with the PSP flash, that includes official updates. Plug the PSP a/c adapter, make sure you have adequate battery power. Hit me up on AIM at f34rmypsp if you want more info.
