I really don't understand the problem. It sounds more like the cable was damaged from the way you describe it. Anyways, if the actual ethernet port itself is damaged, I'm sure the only sure fire way to get it fixed would be via Sony.

sounds like you damaged the cord. did it just fall on it? or did it fall on it and pull it out of the rj-45 jack? if it pulled out it could have either damaged the male or female end, so either way i would reccomend just trying a different cord to know if its the cable or your ps3

no its not the cord i still use that cord for my computer. its the part where you plug it in. if you take a close look at that part you will see a row of thin metal strips that the ethernet cable touches when you plug it in. when the cord was ripped out it pulled some ofthosestrips and now they cross over each other and and all mangled up. you know what i mean?

You have my sympathies.

I don't think you have much of a choice but to call Sony. Then again, if you're out of warrenty it'll be kind of stupid paying $150 just to fix an ethernet port:?

Any chance you can straighten them back out with an extremely fine implement of some kind? Perhaps a sewing needle? Make sure the unit is off entirely before attempting, btw. :P

My vote is to try and bend them back yourself. You'll be amazed how hardy these things usually are. As long as they're in a similar position, and still getting the connection, it will work.

Wow, having to send a PS3 back for that would be a damn shame. I would try doing it yourself. But if you do, no one on these boards are liable for any damages you may inflict upon the machine, yourself, or those around you :P
