I went to bed after a nice night of creating on LBP, when I woke up the next morning I booted up my PS3 and nothing happened. I have my system set to start the disc automatically so I poped it out and put it back in...nothing. I tried every game I have and checked a couple of DVDs and none worked. My warranty expired like a year ago so i decided to open her up and clean her and it still wouldn't read the discs. It doesn't even tell me that it can't read the them, it just sits there and trys to load it but nothing ever happens. I've heard that it costs around 200$ to fix the disc-drive so I probably should just get a new one but I don't want to give up that easily. Is there any way to purchase a disc-drive and install it myself? Or a way to replace the optical lens without sending it in because if I had the part I am totally capable of putting it in myself. I know its a tough chance but if anyone can help please message me.

Your Blu-ray player is broken. To have Sony replace it, you should send it and it will take a few days (at best), and 175 U$S.

You can try to get a new drive and change it. The process is not difficult and there even are some videos in youtube that show it to you. You have to be careful when you buy the replace, though, because the drive in 40 GBs models is different than the ones in older versions, and I am not sure if you can plug one on the other without issues.

I would just send it to Sony and let them fix it. ;)
