Brutal Legend Demo - Impressions

Downloaded and played the Brutal Demo. being a fan of tim's games, i only expect top quality .

in brief my experience:

- Game is alot of fun, Music is awesome, environment and setting loyal to heavy metal.

- Dialogue is funny as hell, voice acting top-notch

- Good art style, but graphics engine sort of outdated compared to other 2009 releases.

Bad:

- Animations extremely dissapointing, very stiff, choppy, sometimes very cartoonish, Character animations not in sync with heavy metal theme.

- If you think about it, animations seem to be COMPLETELY recycled from psychonauts? Infact as i've read it seems Eddie's running animation and battle stand animation is actually the EXACT same as psychonauts? Sorry but this is dissapointing and very lazy. Eddie runs like bugs bunny.

- Few graphical glitches, game crashed twice on exit, but can be due to Firmware 3.01 which still has problems.

- Release date of October 13th will KILL the game and insure failure. Uncharted 2 coming out same time, will knock it off shelves. Bad decision by Tim IMO

The demo was awesome...I hate heavy metal but this game was good.

It was so awesome. I still hate Jack Black for trying to be metal (I made School of rock, that was so metal!!!!!) the game is so awesome I can't even describe it. 3 Inches Of Blood!!! Canadian metal!!!

I was on the fence about this game, but after trying the demo I think my wallet will shrinking even more this month.

Great demo.

Game releases aren't like movie releases, you can release two top notch games on the same day and still sell a buttload of copies...but don't forget that its also coming out on the 360, so I don't think they will be very screwed at all.

It was quite good. Don't want to pay much for it though.

I thought it was awesome. I'm definitely going to buy it on day one because I'm getting an insane deal on it, but it won't get any play until I get through Uncharted 2.;)

I found the game really funny and enjoyable all around. The graphics did seem a bit choppy, but we got to remember, it's a demo. Sometimes the graphics in these are dumbed down to make the download smaller. BIA: Hell's Highway was like this, the graphics look like Cod 1.

Is that main guy in this game supposed to look like like Jack Black? Was that an accident or the developers purposely did that? Heck even his voice sound like jack black.

It seems great, although i wouldn't mind my "Guitar Hero" guitars being "functionable" with parts of the game. Places like where he found the carparts in the demo. Don't you think?

Oh ok. But damm they even made the protaganist in the game look like Jack Black. LMAO. Or is it just me.

I loved Jack Black, and I respect Tim Schafer, but I wasn't impressed with the Brutal Legend demo.

I like it but i gotta feeling this game will sell horrible and will probably be $40 in December so I will wait till the end of the year to buy this

It was amazing. Day One Purchase For me.

I like how they Fit Rock, Blood & Gore, and Swearing Into one Big Package.

I thought pretty much much everything about it was great... except for the gameplay.

The presentation, art style, humour, voice acting and music are all fantastic. I just don't like the overly simplistic combat. It was never really big on my radar, but I definately would have wanted to pick it up if the game seemed a bit more fun to play.

Ironically, the sound design didn't feel right for me. For a music-themed game, the audio was all over the place. The balancing of voice acting, music, and sound effects was inconsistent. Some of the sound effects (especially during cutscenes) were really weak, while other shone brilliantly. Besides that, I loved the demo. I never laughed so much in a single 10 minutes of gaming. Before I went into the demo, I stopped at the title screen thing that pops up when you keep yourself hovering over the game icon. I was disappointed and surprised to not be greeted with some sort of expected metal song that looped, but was pleasantly surprised at what I got instead. LOL thats exactly what I thought.

At some points the Sound effects sounded Lamee. I didnt know if they did this On Purpose Just For The Laughs, or they just Did it accidentally.

I wasn't even interested in this game at all...then I randomly decided to try the demo and now it's going to be a first-day purchase. :)

My impressions are on my blog, but to save you going there I thought it was ok - 7/10. There was a good comedy feel about it, and combat was surprisingly not bad. However, it was the visuals and animations which let it down. They didn't look right.

It was alright, kind of boring, I probably won't buy it, but I loved the humor.

Agreed, as some mentioned by a few here, the sound balancing was off, sound effects quality poor and general blending of background music with other sounds like in game dialogue didn't feel right at times.. im hoping they fix all mentioned things in this post at final release, but i doubt it since its sort of too late.
