So it turns out all the newer PS3s are not backwards compatible anymore, and it was one of the main selling features for me, as I've never owned a PS2 yet.

What it comes down to is, should I really hunt down those older PS3s? Or just buy a PS2(probably now) + PS3 (later)?

Advantages of getting a PS2 that I have come up with so far:

- I won't have to use a PS3 to play PS2 games, thus reducing the wear-and-tear of the PS3's system components.
- the PS2 slimline's design won't take up much space anyway.
- hunting down for a backwards compatible PS3 may get pricey, since they are "rare" now.

Disadvantages of getting a PS2 + PS3:

- I have to buy controllers and memory cards for BOTH systems in the end. (Is there a way around this?)
- did they take out any features from the newer PS3s that I will want from the older models?

Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hmmm, yeah you probably should of bought the PS3 when you had the chance. Don't know why you waited but anyways, You only need to buy one memory card and a memory card adapter. That way you can store saves on the PS3 and delete saves as you see fit. I'm assumeing you can do that on a B/C less PS3 cause I know I can do that on my BC PS3. I don't think you'll need to get any controllers for your PS2 cause the good games for PS2 are mostly single-player and I'm sure any good mult-player PS2 game probably has an updated version on PS3.

I would get a BC PS3. You have less cables (you don't have to plug in 2 systems, no cables on the controller), you don't have all those Memcard Problems (Mem Cards are on the hard disk and that way you can easier backup them), there are actually tons of reasons why you better take a BC Ps3 :S (don't know if the PS3 can upscale PS2 Games or if it supports online play with it easely (hated this whole installing on a Mem Card to go online)

Yes PS3 can upscale PS2 games and don't forget with a BC PS3, you use the wireless controller to play everything instead of PS2's wired controller.

If you can find a 60GB PS3 for cheaper than the 80GB or 40GB then get it...Take it mind it will be most likely well used (I have a thing about buying used hardware)

The thing is though, a BC PS3 is $100 more than a regular PS3. So the price turns out the same in the end if I buy a PS2 + PS3?

And yes, there are many PS2 games I want to play.

Wait for special sales like I did. Walmart had a sale where you buy a PS3 and you get a $100 gift card. I just used that money to buy a PS2. You're better off buying a new PS3 and a used PS2 than trying to find a BC PS3 (Goes upwards to $600 to $700 off of Amazon/Ebay because they currently stopped making them)
