Yeah end of august, beginning of september is when the 80gb will be $399. I'd suggest waiting if it's coming bundled with the dualshock. It's not too far off.

Are you interested in backward compatible? because the new 80GB model that will replace the 40GB will not have BC at all, if not then wait and get the new 80GB.

Buy now. BC will matter because PS3 does not have a whole lot of games worth playing to stop bothering with PS2.

DO NOT WAIT! You have until the end of summer to buy one that has Backwards Compatability. I would get the MGS4 bundle before September, if I didn't already have one. The PS2 library is great and vast, and you'll want to play it in 1080p with AA enabled. BUY A PS3 BEFORE THE PRICECUT, if you value the classics, that is.

You don't care about BC I take it. I love playing PS2 games with a wireless controller in 1080p with anti-aliasing, myself. Why deny youreself the richest gaming library that's currently supported? If you wait to buy, you save $40 (MGS4 SKU comes with a $60 must have,) but you miss out experiencing the classic PS2 franchise in HD, wireless glory.

I've honestly played about 3X as many PS2 games on my PS3, so I think waiting for a cheaper, less full-featured SKU is madness. MADNESS!

There is no "most powerful" PS3 -- they're all basically the same hardware inside. Some new models have a 45nm process for the CPU, which basically means the die is smaller, it runs cooler and uses less power (but is not more powerful). As far as BC goes, that's generally going the way of the dinosaur, so pick up an 80GB MGS4 bundle now. Those have software emulation for PS2 games, but who knows how long they'll be sold? Hardware emulation (60GB model, now retired) is already gone.

Aug27 is when you'll find the 399 80GB, but I recommend that you get the MGS4 bundle right now for 499 it gives you a dual shock 3 controller, and MGS4 the best PS3 game out right now.

^Listen to this man. You're going to get MGS4, TC... right? Then that's already $460 for the 40GB and MGS4, so just get the 80GB with backwards compatibility, more vents, and memory card readers.
