My dad is going to get me a PS3 40GB from thailand. What I need to know is if the power will work here. Its 240V here.

Do I need to buy it a power converter or what?

i dont know if the new ps3s have universal PS, but i know that the games are not region coded so there are no problems there. Bluray movies are region coded, but if i remember right, you are the same region code as Thailand.

You're fine power wise, you can use a PC power cord. The PS3 auto switches to different voltages, same as the PSP. I know this because my PSP and PS3 are Japanese.

You will be fine with PS3 games but PAL PS1 games will not work and region 4 DVDs also wont work. The 3 BDs I bought here so far have worked as they were all region A,B&C, but if they are region B, they will also not work. I am unsure if Thailand is PAL or NTSC standard but if it is NTSC, you may have some problems with certain PAL PS3 games if you do not have a HDTV.

Yes it will work. I bought mine in Thailand. It will most likely be Japanese, but see if you can't get a US one. Ask them, read the packaging, find out. Get a US if you can but Japanese is fine too. They are all uni. power so they will work anywhere, and the Japanese, American and Euro regions share games and Blu-rays so you will have no problems there.

Lol same here. Top floor, right below the movie theatre. MBK ftw.

Japanese systems have the same language settings as every other system so it doesn't matter. You are incorrect about the Blu-Ray regions though, there are 3 regions. Most BDs have been region free so far but not all. Japan and the US are region "A", Australia and Europe are region "B".

Thanks to all of the people that gave me really useful information. One other thing is that will I be able to change the language on the ps3 from thai to english? Also is it true that the buttons on the controller are different?

On more thing. My dad might get one from MBK. Where abouts is the store located and whast it called, and are they a safe and reliable shop?

You certainly can change the language to English. The only difference with the controller is that O is "select/confirm" and X is "no/cancel" because O (maru)="yes" in Japanese and X (batsu) is "no". I have no idea why it was changed in the West, it's rather stupid.
