So, i finally about to scrape together enough spare money to get myself a PS3. :D

Now, i'm getting a 60gb with extra controller plus Resistance.

Is there anything i should know?

Any insider hints or tips?

Does it get hot?

Does it require loads of ventilation space?

Is there a specific firmware thats the best one?

And so on and so fourth!

Also, general disgussion about how you have your PS3, and what you do with it is appreciated :)

Any insider hints or tips? have fun

Does it get hot? no, not really it just gets somewhat warm

Does it require loads of ventilation space? just give it a little room in the back to dispurse the heat

Is there a specific firmware thats the best one? when you download the latest update you get'em all

And so on and so fourth!

It does not come with Component cable... so you will need to buy those if you plan to play it on an HDTV through component input. Its only $20 and itsreally easy to find.

The only thing I have to add is to remember that to sync a controller (eg: the second one you'll be obtaining) you need to plug it into the console with the USB cable and press the sync button on the back of the controller. Also, if you want to use old PS1/2 saves, you'll need to transfer them with this. If you want to use your PS2 guitar controller for GH1/2, you'll need something like this. Aside from that, you good to go.

And btw, Transmet has got to be one of my favorite comics ever! Nice to see a fellow fan.

If you're running your PS3 on your HDTV make sure you get an HDMI cable. Make sure your TV supports that. i would say that this is the best set up fora PS3. Resistance is a great game to buy. If you like FPS then Rainbow six vegas is a good choice too and it's more tactical. PS3 does not get hot, It's so amazingly stable and runs very cool. Mine runs so smooth, I can't even hear it running unless I come very close to it. The 60GB model is a great choice. it's cheaper right now and has everything you need. In the future, you can upgrade the harddrive if you like, but 60Gb is good enough for now. If they're still running the 5 blue ray movies still, make sure you get those and sell on ebay or something.

elemental_drago

there is no "sync" button on the back of the controller

all you do is connect it with the USB cable and it automatically sync's, in some cases you might even have to press the PS button but i dont think you do

if you want to play ps2 games, is it required to have those things? or can you just play them with Sixaxis and save the games on the HDD?

I have a HDTV, sadly, an older one, that only supports 780p and DVI connection, is there a DVI connection for the PS3? or is it only Component or HDMI?

Edit, i found these http://www.amazon.co.uk/PS3-HDMI-DVI-cable/dp/B000NWQULS/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/026-1216885-0888421?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1185214275&sr=8-1

Do i loose any quality over HDMI or Component when using that?

No, it will emulate the memory cards from the HDD, you only need the adapter to transfer the saves the first time to the HDD. (or back if you so wish to take them to a friends place or simply back up all your hard work)

HDMI is all around the better option. The difference is more noticeable at 1080p but it's still there at 720p. Imo, since you'll need to get some sort of HD cable (be it Component, HDMI, or other) I'd just pony up to the HDMI price. That's what I did, at least.

Yes well.. i'm asking if there is a problem with going using a cable thats HDMI from the PS3, and DVI to the TV, because my tv does NOT have a HDMI connection, but it does have a DVI.

I'm using my PS3 with a HDMI > DVI cable on my minitor and it works fine at 720p. Just be sure to plug in the cables that came in the box so you can hook up the audio plugs into your tv/sub/AV receiver so you can have sound. But even though you have plugged your audio cables in, you have to tell the PS3 to route the sound through them because it'll default to send everything (video and audio) through the HDMI. Just go to Settings, Audio then setup the audio and select the cables instead of HDMI.

For the record I'm only using DVI as an interim until I get my new TV next month. I suggest you consider investing in an HD tv which supports HDMI and at least 1080i.

Cheers mate, perfect answer! :)

Well, my TV does 1080i, but i personally think 780p looks more crispt, but that might just be me :P

but yeah, i would love a new TV, but i just dont have the money for it :P

I'm getting Resistance first, then wait till i complete that to buy Sigma, but i have already played RSV on the 360 and wasn't that big a fan...

and hell effing yeah, look at my game collection, i own all MGS games, ofcause i'm getting MGS4! Its one of the main reasons i'm getting a PS3 :D
