I've been on 360 this whole generation, and that doesn't eat away at your hard drive very much. But two of my PS3 playing friends say that PS3 really is a HDD troll. I could spend a little while longer saving up an extra hundred dollars and buying the White 320GB console instead of the 160GB console (I have a part0time job and putting in $50 a week to save for it). And I will if It's the best way to go. But then again, 160GB might be able to serve me just fine.

Yes, it is since every game requires space on your hard drive in order to play. Unlike Xbox, the game must install before you can play.

Do you plan on buying a lot of PSN games, or joining Playstation plus? How about downloading a lot of digital movies or music. If the awnser to any of those is yes, than hold out for the larger HDD. If your going to get a few PSN games, but mostly play disc based titles, you'll be fine with 160GB

I have a 120 GB system with Gran Turismo, FFXiii, 10 PS1 classics, 5 PSN digital games (LPB and Wipeout being the largest), and put in at least 12 other games into the system off the top of my head.

Also I have about 150-200 songs on my PS3...no movies though

Meanwhile I still have 55 GBs left.

Took me about 3 years before I had to upgrade my 80GB. I did continuous delete game data that I wasn't using though. I feel pretty comfortable with the 250 Gigs I have now. If you plan on downloading games or just playing a lot of games, you might as well go for the 320 if 160 and 320 are the only options. Beats spending the money later on and going through the whole process of swapping HDDs.

As others have said, you're going to want a large hard drive if:

- you plan on doing a lot of downloading - games, music, videos - in addition to playing games.
- you're the type to skip around and play a lot of games all at once, since each one will need to be installed.
- you expect to buy a lot of games and want to keep them installed so that you can play them whenever you want without having uninstall/reinstall.

The standard 160GB is more than adequate for most people, but depending on how you're planning to use your PS3, it wouldn't hurt to have the 320GB (which is practically overkill). Like they say, it's better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it.

Agreed. the amount of game patches and installs have eaten up 120G pretty fast, for me. I have a lot of PS3 titles on disc, and some of them like GT5 and such take an enormous amount of that HDD up. I delete game info I don't need as I finish a game, but some things like map packs for CoD gotta be kept as I play them often.

160 is great for me, but I don´t own too many games. Maybe you should if you plan to get alot of games.

My 80 GB has ran like a champ the last 3.5 years or so, and I'm JUST running out of space. I literally only have 1500 MB left, and have about 25 games with very few demos and downloaded games. You really shouldn't need more than 120 GBs. Cheers

I've had a 120 gig since December of '09, and I still have around 40 gigs left. Although I have deleted games I know I'll never play again or don't play that often. It really depends a lot on the games too. Some games have really small installs, while on the other extreme end some games take up a ton of space (Gran Turismo 5 takes up 8 gigs, for example).

I'd say so, i have had my PS3 since 2008 so of course i only have a 40gb harddrive and i am always uninstalling and reinstalling games because of that, go for the biggest one there so you have room for a huge game collection

it will depend on your use of the system. if you going to be adding a lot of music, movies and dlc games ect then a large HDD is a bonus though a 160 gig model or what ever there putting in the entry lv ps3's now will hold a lot. IF you think you will need more space may i suggest just getting a good laptop HDD and installing in your self. you will get more for your mony and installing them is easy. you can get a 320 gig hdd for under 50 bucks now.

I would get a cheaper ps3 now and wait for hd prices to go back down and upgrade to a 1tb. Then buy an enclosure for the old ps3 hd and have a 160 gb portable drive. You can already get a 1tb samsung for around $115.

You can get the smaller HDD system and swap the HDD out for with a lot more space than is offered on the system.

If you plan on downloading games, then definately get the biggest you can.
80 gigs gave me enough room for around a dozen PS1 oldies, and around a dozen PSN games of vaious sizes. And of course my saves and a few pictures.

Go big if you can.

This depends on how many games you intend to have. If you are like me and cycle through games (sell and buy) then you won't need too much. All games, on your first play, will install on your hard drive. I, once in a while, go through my game data and delete the games I don't have.

I wouldn't worry about it now. 160gb will serve you well. Down the road, year or two from now if you need bigger HDD pick western digital for 50$ which will give you 500gb. Its been three years for me and I still havr over 180 gb on mine. Save your money. 160gb will be fine.

320 is overkill but if my 160gb somehow runs out it and I swap it for 500GB or 1TB(is ps3 accepts) it I woud rather not spend £50 I don't need to and then get a massive hdd if I needed it.

160 is more than enough at this point.

Getting a bigger HDD was an interesting idea when they still had the OtherOS option or when we thought that more and more games would allow custom soundtracks or video capture. But Other OS is gone and support for those other features is less than sporatic so you don't need much space at all. I also don't see Sony adding any more features to the ps3, much less anything that would be sophisticated enough to warrant extra drive space.

I upgraded my 120GB slim to a 500GB HDD a few months after I bought it, and I checked the other day and I'm down to 244GB. I have a ton of PSN stuff from PS+ though, and I still have that 15GB DC Online beta sitting there. I didn't bother to delete it because it's not like I'm short on space or anything, it's doing no harm sitting there. But even 500GB was overkill, for most people 250GB would be more than enough.

Get the Uncharted 3 bundle with 320 GB HDD for $300. It's worth every penny! I also have another PS3 with a 500 GB HDD installed. I have 3 GB's of space left on that one.

I bought a PS3 with 160 GB one year ago. I have played 20 disc games, bought one full game on PSN and a hand full of DLC stuff. My HD is almost full and I think about upgrading it to 500 GB. I would suggest you go for the 320GB.

Had the original 60GB, and was constantly fighting with what to keep and what to delete.

When the disc drive died on it, I bought a 320GB Slim, and haven't looked back. Being able to have dozens of games and demos at the same time is where it's at. Definitely worth the extra $50 over the 160GB.

You really dont need the biggest. But new games are requiring more space. so you should be fine with a 80 or a little higher. Just learn to delete games when you dont play them anymore.
